Charleston AM shakeup

Kirkman Broadcasting is making a big move for sports radio in Charleston. ESPN Radio is moving from 910 AM to 98.9 FM on March 4.

98.9 is carrying NASCAR, and the rest of their stations are being changed. FanTalk will air on 98.9.

98.9 will carry ESPN, while 910 will carry Steve Czaban, Dan Patrick, then CBS in the afternoons. FOX will air at night, then NBC overnights. All 3 networks will be on the same station.

950 will simulcast 1340 WQSC. 1450 will carry an all-news format from America's Radio News.

I feel sorry for Bill Shannon. I thought he rebounded nicely at Fun 98.9. He landed there after Apex made the huge mistake of dropping the greatest hits format at 95.9 IOP. Fun plays decent music, but I can't listen to Tom Kent for what seems to be 6-hours a day.

Apparently WQSC 1340 isn't being touched. I wonder how adding 950am will help.

Actually, Czaban's show is from Yahoo! Sports Radio - so there will be a grand total of FOUR sports radio networks being heard daily on one radio station.

Most of the flip has happened already. It started tonight. ESPN is on 98.9, while a simulcast of Yahoo! Sports is on 910 and 1450. Don't know when 1450 will do their flip. 950 and 1340 are simulcasting now.

Fun is no longer on.

Wow. All four? And nothing local?
Is this a good thing?

FanTalk will still be on 98.9 along with the statewide show, but I don't know if 910 will have any local shows. They do still have local play by play.

Kirkman has changed it's mind. Now, ESPN will simulcast on 98.9 and 910 because they realized 98.9 has some signal issues. The programming that was supposed to be on 910 will be on 1450. 950 and 1340 will still simulcast.
