Let's see if I can keep this within guidelines....The top 4 stations all increase the ever widening gap between themselves and the rest of the field, with 93 Jamz back up in double-digits, WEZL jumping a share over the Winter book, Apex' Urban AC a strong third and XLY up big as well (not being in-market, what is CC doing that others aren't, that makes them so successful with oldies?).After that, the rest of the pack is WAY behind, with Magic and 95SX more or less flat from the Winter book; CC's classic rock dropping a full share, 96 Wave continuing to sully their great legacy, WSCC-FM next, the new Apex CHR up over half a share to close the gap between the CHR's to half a share (of course, this is 12+ - have no idea about the target demos); Citadels country offering continues to flounder, as does their incredibly underperforming AC, and you have to drop several more slots before you find WTMA...active rock WYBB follows the nartionwide trend of poorly-performing active rock outlets, WALC (though we have heard them praised here) barely registers...and the areas Mexican station is beating WCOO. Good grief. This market used to be a horse race. What happened? Comments?

Trends are very deceiving, without access to all the info. Likewise, 12+ numbers mean nothing. What client ever says "I want to reach listeners over 12 years of age? Here is the rank for 25-54 from the Winter book:WEZLWXSTWWWZWRFQWXLYWALCWSUYWMGLWXTC-AMWAVFWAZSWNKTWSSXWCOOWJNIWSCCWIHBWTMA-AMWYBBWLTQ-AMWTMZ-AMWTUAWQSC

From what I've heard personally while listening to Y-102.5, they have an updated playlist compared to most oldies stations across the country. Last I heard in Summer 2005, they were playing "The Greatest Hits of All Time" focusing in on the 70's with some 60's and 80's as well. From listening online over the past few months, it seems as if they have dropped the JAM "Do It Again" jingle package used on WXLY since the late 1990's (from when they were Oldies 102.5) and replaced it with something from TM Century. Any confirmation of that?Their last PD, Chris Rivers, has appeared to have been let go according to their website (no mention of him). If you get a chance, I recommend you check out Y-102.5 for yourself by listening online at www.wxly.com. It's a very unique oldies station, although it certainly is no longer "Traditional" oldies.

interesting to me that , outside of WEZL, CC doesn't do particularly well in chs. too bad....because as i have been in chs.......'their rock station saounds good......alice sounded good....the drive (nee alice) also sounds good.......their attempt at fm talk has possibiities..........wassup....

The new B 92.5 sounds good, better then Mix 97.7 in the morning and during the day and Hot 100, but Hot 100 does sound good much better then Mix 97.7. As for B 92 it is very strong as I can hear them up in Myrtle Beach in my car driving all the way from Pawleys to Myrtle Beach by the new mall. I also sometimes can get Z 93.3 Jamz along with 95.5 SX. The other station that I can also get up in MYB is Sunny 96.9 which I have to say is a great AC better then the one here Star 92.1 is all over the place. It is to bad it doesn't do better in its own market.

It would be nice to see B92 flip to Rhythmic or Urban and go directly at Z93 JAMZ. Since B92 is CHR/Pop the main focus is to take down 95SX (i heard is the #1 biller), but B's playlist is Rhythmic heavy aiming at Z93 as well. Isn't Citadel planning on selling WMGL "Magic 101.7"? Apex's STAR 99.7 seems to be taking them down big time.

If WXLY is similar to WMJE out of Winder, GA, then it would definitely be a fun station to listen to. I just spent the week on vacation at my parents mountain house near Rosman, NC, and the best "oldies station" that I culd pick up was WMJE, Magic 102.9 out of Winder and they are the same type of station and i loved it because I was listening to a lot of songs that you just do not hear anymore on the typical oldies station like we have here in Columbia, SC, and i really enjoyed it and if I were programming a oldies station, then that is the way that I would definitely program it.

12+ has its limitations but saying "it means nothing", which I read all the time, way overstates those limitations.

First, despite what media buyers may tell you, radio stations don't exist merely as a delivery system to send spots to ears. 14 year olds actually represent a portion of the public we allegedly serve.

But even beyond that, unless you've never seen detailed ratings for a particular market, an experienced radio pro can glance at 12+ and know from previous books whether a station did well or not. Each format delivers a fairly predictable demographic. Very seldom does a station make a significant up or down move 12+ yet move in the opposite direction in its demographic.
