Charleston, SC Radio

I remember a time when I envied Charleston, SC because their radio market was a lot better than Columbia, SC. There was the wide open 96 Wave, the fun party station 94.3 The Beat, and even 100.5 The Drive was good. Now, it seems Charleston and Columbia are in the same boat when it comes to conservative stations. The only stations I can listen to now are 98 Rock (even though they have began sounding watered down due to syndication in the AM and PM), 105.5 The Bridge, and 95SX. Will this market ever see a modern rock station or party type station again?

I don't see who would do modern rock. Apex has made it clear that they are done with the Wave branding (and likely alternative format). Clear Channel's stations all do fine, and aren't in any danger. The Citadel/soon to be Cumulus stations look fine except for 96.9. If another rock format came to Charleston, that is where it would probably be. Looks like 105.5 The Bridge and 98X will be the rock stations for Charleston, at least for a while.

If you mean fun party station being Rhythmic CHR?, who knows, but I don't see who would do that format, either.

Charleston (and Columbia) have much better radio than Greenville, IMO....at least everyone isn't so set in their ways in those markets and have more choices.
