Charleston's 'Oldies (???)' station - WXLY

Is it just me, or does this station sound like it's having an identity crisis? I heard it a few weeks ago, my is it in bad shape...seriously, I can understand them playing more songs from perhaps the 1970s, but really, is it necessesary to play these 80s AC songs that are on tons of other stations already? They certainly have a different definition of oldies than I and probably others do. The jingles are alright, but does anyone know exactly what they're using? Sounds like the ID and some of the 'shotguns' are from JAMS' "Do it Again" (which they've used since at least 2001), but the ones that say "Charleston's Favorite", I have no clue on. Maybe TM Century??

What do you all think about Y102?

Oldies stations are a dying breed. Since they are owned by Clear Channel, look for a probable format flip in the upcoming year.

Yeah, it's sad. When I heard them last summer, they sounded like a 70's soft A/C.
Unfortunately, I noticed the very same thing when I was down in that area back in July and they just did not have the same feel that they used to have. They have since gotten rid of many of their good air personalities and that is a shame too. Maybe CC will sell off their Columbia and Charleston clusters and get someone in there to buy them out and make them back to what they used to be.

Add Greenville to that list too...

things went downhill after PD Bill Shannon left. Recently they've removed Leo Wyndham and Alison Keller formerly of mornings, and the Kain Cameron formerly of 10-3p. I believe KC had been there since the late 90s. Y used to be very unique and upbeat and made you 'feel good'....the airstaff was great and really topped it off. It's TOTALLY different now and no longer holds my interest. When I last heard it (August) it was very disappointing...mornings and mid-days were still OK but the rest was rather boring. I remember they were at some Hootie and The Blowfish concert...bet you wouldn't have even heard that group mentioned two years ago! Sad.

:(
Take it from me, I was there. I saw the slow slide WXLY. It was like watching someone set fire to a beautiful work of art. I was there 9 years with consistent top ratings only to be fired in the end. The fall book just came out and I was number one 12+...I don't understand.

Kain, I still can't believe they let you go. You were the strongest personality on the station; no one was even close. I think you're absolutely the best female in this market.
I used to really enjoy filling in a few years ago when Bill would take a week off and I'd do mornings with Lona Ann. One week Lona was off and I sat in with Bill; that was fun too.
But I can attest to the huge following you had by the phone calls for you before you even came on and the frequent flower arrangements that were sent to the control room for you by your dedicated listeners.

You worked for Clear Channel and you don't understand? You were too expensive, dear. You probably made a living wage, and we just can't have that at CC. I was also fired (not at your station) after a number one book in AM Drive. Budget cuts..
