charley tuna

Charlie will undoubtedly go down as yet another legendary LA air personality.

Having worked and having been a huge star at two beyond-legendary top 40 radio stations in KHJ & KCBQ/San Diego is a feat matched by very few!!!!

Not many jocks keep doing it until age 63 as he has already done. How many other former Boss Jocks besides Charlie and Shotgun Tom have still been working major market radio, playing the hits for 40 years? Usually by that time, 99% of jocks have gone to Fresno, a career as a travel agent or, indeed, have passed away. I worked with Shotgun and know he is genuine nice guy and Tuna has always come across that way on the air, as did that icon of LA radio longevity, Gary Owens. Maybe this is one business where the nice guys finish last - long after the arrogant jerks have faded into oblivion (actually this may not apply on the East Coast because they kept Don Imus going long after he should have been put out to pasture).

didnt he have a tv gig back in the day? 'A current affair' maybe?
maybe he heads back to the tube for fun.
He did off camera announcer work for a few game shows. Doubt that he did any hosting.

We are truly losing the "legends" of LA radio, slowly, but surely. Charlie Tuna is one of the most entertaining DJ's in Los Angeles radio history, period, despite what the current crop of corporate PD's think! We need more Charlie Tunas on the air, not fewer. And people wonder why radio listenship slowly declines. DUH!!!

Wasn't Charlie supposed to be doing something else for Clear Channel in LA? What happened? Who goofed? I've got to know!

<`))))>< 's last show was very good and he said "it's all good" referring to the change and his future with Clear Chanel. He said he'd know something in a couple of weeks... Will we? Anyone hearing anything?

Charlie did mornings at K-Hits - KHTZ - 97.1 when it was a Greater Media Station. He and the staion were the top music station in Los Angeles. I was there!

If I was Jhani Kaye I'd deep-six Joshua Escandon and slot Charlie in middays. Assuming he'd want the gig ;D

Although you are probably right, (he is the weak link on the staff), Jhani is loyal and will
probably hang on to Escandon, whom he brought with hm from Clear Channel.

KRTH is a natural for Tuna....I'm surprised they haven't swooped him up already. He would really round out the air talent there and add some vintage cache to that station. The only other L.A. gig he could possibly fit in to would be KOST, but probably not high energy enough for his type of delivery. Hope he finds something, because he is one of the last KHJ type jocks left on the air and those were the great days of radio!

He wouldn't sound good on KOST, plus they have a bullit proof airstaff. He would be great at KRTH, but as a post above stated, Jhani is loyal to his friends and won't remove Escandon for that reason. Besides, I really think Tuna would see anything other than mornings as beneath him. He would sound great at KRTH though.

Charlie is a great guy. Oldies would be a solid morning move for him and for the LA market.
