Charlie and Chance moving up the dial and down the schedule

Jeanne Jakle's column today revealed that on Monday, the Charlie Parker and David Chancellor show will be moving from AM drive at Ticket 760 to the 8-10PM slot on WOAI currently held by Ben Ferguson. Ferguson will become a "political analyst" at OAI and AM drive at the Ticket will be filled by syndicated Fox Sports Radio personalities.

Yet another prime talk slot in SA gets handed over to out-of-town syndication. :'(

I guess since I'm not a trained radio professional, I'm not quite sure I understand how moving Charlie and Chance from 760 (here in SA) to 1200 (also here in SA) is a prime time slot handed over to syndication.

Does syndication mean that you can hear a program in more than one market on multiple stations, or is it syndication simply because you can be heard in Canada off the same "flame thrower"?

Wikipedia defines radio syndication as "a process whereby individual radio stations may obtain programming from a centralized distributor." It's a lot like network TV, where generic programs are offered on multiple stations around the country.

For radio professionals, more syndication is a bad thing because it reduces local jobs. Specifically, this change represents 15 more hours a week of local radio that is now being staffed by personalities who aren't local.

Maybe the management at Ticket 760 will regret this choice in a few months when the Fox Sports Radio crew is using its AM drive time to discuss Shaq and Kobe for hours on end instead of the the Spurs? ;)

I think they're referring to replacing them with the syndicated Fox Sports show - he said a "prime talk slot", not prime time talk slot..

Maybe they should regret hiring their PD...
