Charlie can't do it (apparently), so I will

Yesterday Charlie Adams gave us 24 hours advance warning that she'll have Berks-bred golfer Betsy King as a guest on WEEU at 8:07 this morning.

This will preclude "things that happened on this day and people born today", otherwise Charlie might have run down:

the birth of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt on this day in 1882
and
the death of Orville Wright on this day in 1948, at the age of 76.

Too bad. The almanac must be low priority with Charlie and Co., otherwise it would be done at the same time every day with guests worked around that feature, which I like. I don't expect to be listening to WEEU today until tonight's "Afternoon News Update" which will come on just as I'm getting off work.

I believe Charlie does the almanac those days after the 7:30 news.

Someone needs to fill the Mitch Gerhart part with witticisms and sports birthdays, then we'd be all set.

For example,

1943 - Davy Johnson, baseball manager (NY Mets)
1955 - Curtis Strange, Norfolk VA, PGA golfer (1989 US Open)
1957 - William Payne Stewart, Springfield MO, PGA golfer (1983 Walt Disney)

Yesterday (Monday 1/29) Charlie did the almanac at 8:07. Right before he did he pitched Ms. King's appearance today, which is how I knew about it.

Thanks for the sports birthdays, btw, Richard.

Yesterday (Wed. 1/31) he did the almanac at 8:07 again. Hard to pick up because of interference from WTRU Kernersville, NC (Winston-Salem market) but he did have it. I heard Charlie do the execution of Guy Fawkes for blowing up Parliament (which is why the UK celebrates Guy Fawkes Day [Nov. 5 IIRC]) and baseball's Ernie Banks' birthday.

Same here. At least he has two listeners at 8:07. I tune in for the traffic at 8:05, generally listen for the Almanac, then head back to the MP3 player as I drive from Allentown to Reading.
