Charlie Curtis retiring on WBOQ...hmm...

Pretty sure Marlin Broadcasting/the Tangers owns WCCC 106.9 Hartford and WBOQ 104.9 Gloucester. The former is
changing format and ownership tomorrow at 5 pm (from rock to Christian AC). Started to wonder if maybe they may wanna
get rid of WBOQ, too.

Well, the WBOQ facebook says:
>>The Good Time Team says Good-bye to our Man in the Morning, Charlie Curtis! After more than 9 years of hosting the Morning Show on North Shore 104.9, Charlie decided he might like to sleep in on Monday mornings! It's a sad day for North Shore 104.9 and for all of Charlie's loyal listeners, but we wish him all the best as he heads off on new adventures. A toast to you, Charlie Curtis!

Don't know if they're replacing him or will just continue Your Good Time Favorites--and those high flying Boston Red Sox..but is this a sign BOQ could be next? Hmm

Tho maybe Marlin doesn't own BOQ anymore? Venta on radioinsight said WCCC FM and AM (1290, classical) were sole remaining assets of company. Thought one of
the Tangers still owned BOQ

they should

if 104.9 were to change formats to a Christian format. EMF (on a similar site to this one) EMF, besides having "K Love", they also have "Air 1"
"Air 1" would be much better. They sound just like a (HOT AC) format, and the average listener might not be able to tell the difference.
That's how great "Air 1" sound.

Given the way radio's been going, possibly the latter but who knows. WBOQ sells itself to advertisers as the place where
they can "fish where the fish are"--that is, target their advertising to a station serving the North Shore/North of Boston,
not so much Boston itself, and they hint their advertisers can save money and reach their target listeners. Having a live
and local morning drive show is a part of that. If they go birdfed, they wind up as another jukebox. Maybe they'd have
weathercasts (like the one I heard before 10 am) and such, but I'd hope they stay live and local.
Radio is losing listeners to other forms of media incl. streaming audio, Pandora, youtube, you name it. Having a station
that will do a morning show with news tidbits, maybe donut giveaways/appearances at local businesses, good music,
etc., connecting with your audience, that's good. So perhaps yes but I don't know yet...

WBOQ yrs ago found they had Jackie Ankeles and Catherine Brown (local? I think other hosts are birdfed) and decided one could do the work of two,
so Jackie was let go (WNBP now I think?) to save money. Is this a money-saver?

via WBOQ facebook: Looks like it's Catherine Browne now doing the morning show at WBOQ following retirement of Charlie Curtis. Prob satellite music in old slot
