Charlie Murphy, Actor and Comedian, Dies at 57

Charlie Murphy, an actor and comedian who shot to prominence after hilarious performances in several iconic “Chappelle’s Show” sketches, died Wednesday from complications from leukemia in a New York hospital, his publicist confirmed to TheWrap.

Murphy, the older brother of comic legend Eddie, co-wrote some of his more famous sibling’s movies, including “Norbit” and “Vampire in Brooklyn.” But Charlie Murphy is best known for his “C! True Hollywood Stories” sketches on Dave Chappelle’s mid-2000s Comedy Central show, where the two of them hilariously reenacted experiences the Murphy brothers had with celebrities including the late Prince and Rick James.

Just watching the entire unedited season 2 of "Black Jesus" over the last few days on Hulu, really enjoyed his work, did not know he was Eddie Murphy's brother and sorry to read this

the best bits of his on Chappelle's Show involves him telling stories of Rick James and Prince. and the Rick James one is the most famous due to the catchy one line from Dave Chappelle's impression of Rick James screaming "I'm Rich James B****" and the Prince one was so memorable, the the real Prince (may he RIP as well) put Dave Chappelle as Prince on the album art of a song called "Breakfast Can't Wait". without's Charlie's stories of those two, we would never had those two famous bits and that catchphase and the Prince album art.

it's not gonna be sad to see the Rick James sketches and Prince sketches knowing that all 3 men are now gone.

also he was great as Ed Wuncler the 3rd on The Boondocks the cartoon series based on the comic strip, in which he voiced a white character who acted totally like a black gangster thug despite him being white, a veteran of the Iraq war/war on terrorism in Afghanistan and the grandson of a very rich man (played by TV icon Ed Asner).

RIP Charlie, my thoughts and prayer goes out to the surviving cast members of the Chappelle Show, Black Jesus, and The Boondocks as well as his other costars in other shows and movies he did, his friends and of course his younger and more famous brother Eddie and the rest of the Murphy family.

A few years ago, I watched the TV series "Are We There Yet?" Ice Cube, who was the stepfather in the movie, played the brother-in-law of the stepfather, who was played by Terry Crews. Charlie was the ex and the children's father who occasionally showed up and tried to make up for his past misdeeds. I'm sorry to hear this.
