Charlie O' Donnell

Very sad...had no idea he was even sick! Never got to meet Charlie-O, but remember him well from when "Wheel" came to Dallas the first time, back in March 2001. Aside from the great pipes, he was an ace at warming up an audience...perhaps one of the best ever.

Speaking of "Wheel" and Dallas connections, the first hostess of the show (1975-82) was actress and gossip writer Susan Stafford, who just happened to be the second wife of Gordon McLendon!

Now that is what I call a piece of D/FW radio trivia!!

Charlie was a well known DJ at WFIL in Philadelphia when he was tapped as the announcer on the original American Bandstand which came from WFIL TV in Philly.
When AB moved to Hollywood, O'Donnel went with them and found much fame and fortune!
He did a DJ stint on KRLA for a good while out there as well.

One of the "Eleven-Ten Men" on KRLA.

Charlie 'O ... The Jolly Lean Giant.
