Charlie Ocean has passed away...

"MURPHY remained with WAVH as Production Director up until last week, when he was let go."

They let him go a week before his death? I hope this wasn't as cruel as it appears. Just when you thought you'd heard it all...

Awwww man!! I hated to hear that. I read it on All Access earlier today and couldn’t believe it. My thoughts and prayers go out to all his family-Especially his wife and kids.

I’ve got a lot of good stories, too. He’s a good guy that will truly be missed.

As far as on-air, I used to enjoy his “preview” of network and remote broadcast audio before air time. For example, I remember years ago on Oldies 106, he’d say something on-air like, “We’ve got Super Gold coming up in about 10 minutes…Let’s check that satellite transponder and see if they’re there…<BEEP…BEEP…BEEP…BEEP> Yep, sounds like they’re good to go..” You just don’t get stuff like that on the radio much anymore.

I also liked his famous on-air rainy day line: “Hope you’re staying high and dry…Or at least dry, anyway.”

And of course, let’s get an “Arrrr” from the Pirate.

Thanks for the memories, Charlie.

Wow. This kinda puts life into perspective. This is the 2nd Mobile-area radio legend within a year that we lost too soon, with Scott O’Brien passing back in December. This also makes at least 4 area radio legends we've lost in less than 3 years with Ray Ray and Elder Simon from WBLX passing within the last couple of years or so.

Charlie and scott obrian will both be missed. I worked at various stations with them both over the years, and they were both class acts. I also thought charlie should have moved to a larger market...he was a great talent.
