Damn, how many more?!?!?!?!?!?!? John McCarty, George Carlin, Murphy Martin, Dan Bates...now Charlie Payne. Dr. Charles F. Payne had a long career with the McLendon's, running KLIF-1190 years ago and Gordon's KABL in Oakland, and also was with KAND-Corsicana and KIXL here, and later owned stations in Virginia. He wrote the book, "Feedback: Echoes From My Life in Radio," in 2000. Charlie's beloved wife Katy passed away in January, 2007.

Prayers and condolences to Charles III, George and the family. Charlie was a great guy and will be missed.

Mike -

Sorry for posting my note on Charlie. I think I was about three minutes behind you. Yours actually came on line when I was writing mine.

I do already miss Charlie. I sat next to him at a couple of the "D/FW Lunch Bunch" gatherings and he was such a pleasure to be around. He was an inspiration to anyone who thought radio and broadcasting had a bad side. He made all of it sound like heaven. Now, we know he is there.

Jay :(

Unfortunately, the madness seems to continue. Ralph Baker is dead from a heart attack at 62. A true class-act who will be deeply missed by many. KRLD just made the announcement this morning.
