Charlie Tuna Dead

LARadio.com reports CHARLIE TUNA is dead at age 71. According to Don Barrett, Charlie died on February 21---eight days ago. Charlie has not posted to CharlieTuna.com since February 2 and his last tweet was February 8. No word on cause of death or why word was held for eight days.

This saddens me more than I can say.

I also just heard the sad news on KNX radio in LA. Charlie was the best! They interviewed Shotgun Tom about his memories of Charlie Tuna. Here is the link to Charlie Tuna's own website -- www.charlietuna.com -- where you will find a press release about his passing. Such sad news.

Wow, what a loss. A legend in Los Angeles radio (especially at KRTH), and a great game show announcer as well. If you ever saw Chuck Woolery's "Scrabble" on NBC in the 1980s, he announced that show...and did it well. RIP to another great announcer!

According to charlietuna.com, his daily show and '70s show will continue. It also mentioned something about a "24 hour a day" classic hits format, but I'm not sure how anyone can listen to it when there's no link anywhere...

So, so unfortunate! A true pioneer and legend of Los Angeles radio since KHJ. Definitely, one of the greats in radio history. Sad to hear about this and when he lost his slot at K-Earth months earlier. I certainly remember him on the air....one of the best!!

I know him mostly from being Casey Kasem's announcer. I don't remember whether that was on radio but Casey also had a half-hour Top 10 countdown show which also included several charts other than the Hot 100.

Anyway, I liked him wherever I heard him and I'm sorry to hear this. 71 isn't that old.
