Where we get into a sticky wicket is the music in those airchecks. Some of the radio history websites have been taken to court by music rights companies, claiming digital royalties. They sites claim it's historic material and should be exempt, but there are no exemptions in the copyright act.

The question was whether or not airchecks could be sold or traded. The history websites weren't part of that question (although, as Mike posted, that has been an issue).
 
Eventually, REELRADIO returned to posting uscoped airchecks, but Richard never said publicly (or told me privately) what, if any, settlement had been reached.

Maybe my memory is clearer on that, since some of the airchecks I contributed are available unscoped. I specifically remember that Richard did get ASCAP and BMI licenses for the site, and he made an announcement on the site's General Comments area to specifically let subscribers know taht their money was needed more than ever to cover that.
