Charlotte Classic Hits / Oldies

I can give an exact month for the switch to album rock on WXRC. September 1985.

I do remember WRDX was country when they first went to 100,000 watts, and it was at that time WLVV became WLVK, going from soft AC to country, WRDX did the reverse.

I was working at WRDX when the increase took place. If it was country at 100KW it wasn't for more than a few days. I was standing at the console when we switched from the AM simulcast to Transtar AC. It was Midnight not sure of the date. The first song off the bird was Listen to the Music by the Doobie Brothers.

The first beach show we ran was Dave Smiley on Saturdays. Then they got carried away and almost killed both stations.

WSTP was running mostly business news for a while there. We switched to AM Only for a while.

I have a very soft place in my heart for those stations.

WSTP wasn't doing AM Only during the day when I wanted it. It was at night when I couldn't listen.

There is an oldies station at 90.3 that can be heard over most of Charlotte that sound pretty darn good! Non Commercial as I understand it but lots of good Holiday Jinglles in the past few days with Chirstmas music sprinkled into the presentation. Nice job!

We ran it 24/7 for at least a year.

90.3 is WRBK and I believe is run by the Richburg, SC school system. They also have several translators, I wish they had one in Charlotte, yes, a great little radio station that promotes a music library of over 2500 songs.

A big library is a beautiful thing. Keeping a playlist arbitrarily short when the universe of bionfide hits is enormous is actually quite ridiculous.

[/quote]Oh, yeah, I do remember listening during the day. It couldn't have been for very long, though. I also remember being told at one point that it was running only late at night. I think that's when Dr. Laura and G. Gordon Liddy were on during the day. WRDX had just dropped beach music and people were mad.
