Charlotte doesn't have a rock station

Very surprising.

A Mainstream/active rocker would be great competition to alternative 106.5
Yes but what Frequencies? Charlotte is about out of clear Frequencies for a new Radio Station to actually come aboard. What with all the Transponders and all coming out over the last decade.

True about the frequencies. Also true that CLT doesn't have a Rock station. Why even try to compete with 106.5TheEnd? They only get about a 3 share every book. Let them keep their "Alternative" format. A Mainstream/Active rocker is what is needed to compete with 'RFX. I've said this for a decade. All they play is Pink Floyd & Radar Love by Golden Earring. I've never heard anything like it. An absolutely ridiculous waste of 100kw. More listeners enjoy 93.3ThePlanet. That's the kind of Active Rocker CLT needs. The Fox wimps out when it won't even program Dee Snider's House of Hair on a Saturday night.

I'm not sure what the original poster is asking about. Charlotte doesn't have a Rock station? It has several stations that play Rock. I guess Viper means it doesn't have an Active Rock station? But even the largest markets, such as NYC and LA, don't have Active Rock stations.

Classic Rock 99.7 WRFX is Charlotte's #1 station. Then there's Alternative Rock 106.5 WEND. Charlotte has a Classic Hits station that leans to Classic Rock, 95.7 WXRC. Many folks in the Charlotte market can get 92.3 WKRR Asheboro, a Classic Rock station. And most of what Adult Hits 102.9 WLKO plays is rock-oriented.

Then there's 93.3 WTPT Forest City NC, an Active Rock station. It's really closer to the Greenville-Spartanburg market. But with almost 100,000 watts on a tower taller than 2000 feet, it can be picked up in part of the Charlotte market.

Todd, I don't have a source that says that listeners in CLT enjoy 93.3ThePlanet more than 'RFX, & I apologize. But, from the listeners that I conferred with over the years, they do agree that 93.3 plays better rock. I apologize. Jeff Kent has been the PD of The Fox for decades, & they get decent ratings. But, there are hundreds of songs they could add to their playlist, & they don't, even though it's an I-Heart station. Don't insult the intelligence of the listeners. They can do better!

I remember how much people liked smooth jazz on 93.3 when the signal was improved back in the 80s, but there's a translator that won't let Charlotte listeners hear it now.

This is amazing, considering most of the comments I've seen about The Planet have been negative.

This "Active Rock" thing comes around every now and then. I've seen it many times before. I got curious once and compared the playlists in Radio & Records (which is now long gone showing how old this thread is). Most of the currents were the same with only a few minor differences between the AOR and Active Rock charts. As for the people at 99.7 The Fox they are doing just fine I believe!
