Charlotte, NC Radio Heard Around Myrtle Beach

Lastnight I had on 96.9 which is normal 96.9 The Wolf WIWF from Charleston, SC which has a good signal pick up in the Myrtle Beach area. But then when I listen after the song on 96.9 they said 96.9 The Kat then the call letters and city. I was like how am I getting the Charlotte, NC station over 96.9 The Wolf which is only 100 miles away not even. This was all when I was driving around Garden City and Surfside Beach on Business 17 going home. I was changed the station to see if I could get another Charlotte, NC station and I was able to get 103.7 WSOC in crystal clear and I listen to this station when I visit Charlotte. Wasn't able to get in any other Charlotte, NC stations. Once I got 96.1 The Beat out of Charlotte on a different day.

When you get the right conditions anything is possible. Get some good humidity and get some good temp inversion and the magic of radio is awesome. I miss those days so much... I lived in the NE part of Kershaw county and during the summer could get FM stations pretty much all over the SE... I am not as lucky here in Northern IL as all I get are pretty much stations from Iowa and WI... CC1

I know that the skip was pretty good here in Columbia this morning because I was listening to 97.1 out of Atlanta as well.

Yeah, good ole Tropo Ducting. Just wait till later in the Summer. It can really stretch out too. In Western NC I've heard Texas, Vermont, and many others.

When I lived in Myrtle Beach in the late 80's, I could pick up 99.7 WRFX The Fox on certain days, the weather conditions had to be "just right" though, and it only happened, maybe, two or three times over a 6 year period!

Yeah, i used to live in Myrtle Beach too, and back in the early 90s I used to get awesome Skip all through Summer, and then again in Late fall,,,, I could easily and reliably receive the old 99.7 WHTK CHR from Port Royal SC easily day and night, I could pick up all the Charleston stations like locals, used to listen to 95 SX in Myrtle Beach alot, I could listen to the former B-100 at 99.9 in Wilmington,,, All the Wilmington stations did and still do come in good at Myrtle. I also used to listen to a station on 96.3 called THE HOT FM, from Moorehead city NC, a good 150 miles away almost daily, one time in 1993 I even picked up WNOK from Columbia, but only once and never again, I was never able to DX the Florence stations either, even though its only 60 miles away, we have too many first adjacents, I tried to pick up 103 X, and Wynn-106 several times, but never succeeded. I cant say that I ever heard Charlotte in Myrtle Beach, but one time I did hear Myrtle Beaches Mix 97.7 and 101.7 KZQ on a mountain top in East Tennessee.

Today DXing in Myrtle Beach is not what it used to be, the dial is clogged with a lot of low power signals thaT make the Charleston stations Especially hard to pick up, 95 SX is really hard to get in Myrtle these days because we have a 94.9 nearby. Sometimes ive heard a country station wipe out 95 SX in Myrtle Beach, I never did find out where that was coming from.

Yup a lot of the Charleston Stations come in pretty well around Myrtle Beach, but more in the southern part Surfside Beach towards Pawleys Island. B 92, 96.9 The Wolf are the two good ones I can get a lot also 95sx and 96.1 Chuck FM comes in good. At nite z93 Jamz comes in good as does Y 102.5, 103.5 WEZL and Star 99.7.

As for Wilmington, NC 102.7 WGNI and Coast 97.3 both come in well around Myrtle Beach. Also can get z107.5 well now as 107.5 is gone from Charleston, SC now.
