Charlotte October 2023

Looks like 95.1 is joining 96.1 in the race to the bottom again. That showing for 107.9 is bad and the lowest I’ve seen in a long time for them. Nice jump for V and not at a lot of WOSF’s expense. WBT seems to have regained its footing this year.

Both K-104.7 and Mix 107.9 are classified Adult Contemporary. But within that format, apparently 104.7 has a better music variety playlist. Or stronger on air personalities such as Bob and Sheri. Despite 107.9 having a stronger signal and wider coverage area, 104.7 seems to do much better in the core Charlotte market. And could the loss of Ramona on 107.9 in the mornings weakened that program in the ratings? Perhaps it was a mistake when they lost Bob and Sheri.

V-101.9 has rebounded but CHR continues to decline. 95.1 dropping and perhaps 96.1 should flip to something else.

On the other hand, as old as they are, a station playing mostly 80s music is probably a better fit.

I've been saying that for a long time. Why do they not consider going back to rhythmic? And hip hop doesn't have a full power signal (well, AM, but during the day only). WPEG has never quite committed to that side of the urban format, from what I hear.

KQC is down significantly year over year, and the biggest problem is the music. They've been #1 with these same personalities, so it's definitely not that. Unfortunately, I don't see anything changing until the new year with the Christmas flip only a couple of weeks away. They used to sound really good musically. Not sure what happened.

LNK has always struggled in the ratings, and music has been their weak spot. Bob & Sheri/Matt & Ramona and being sister stations with WBT have been the only things keeping that station afloat for 20+ years. If they would fix the music, they'd be fine.

WPEG has always been a full service Urban station. They're almost entirely currents/recurrents, and pretty balanced Hip Hop/R&B. I wouldn't say they play any more R&B or less Hip Hop than your average Urban station. They don't want to interfere with WBAV.

I will say a lot of the R&B songs test better, and burn slower vs the Hip Hop songs.

But if they don't play less hip hop than the average urban, do they play less hip hop than The Block?
