Charlotte radio in general????

With the big changes over at Clear Channel this week, makes you wonder what will happen with mornings at Lite 102.9, mornings at 106.5 and the new co-host in the wings for The Beat. I'm pretty sure the decisions have already been made from the talks I've heard...but still a toss up..and an interesting one at that.

As much as I like to bash Clear Channel, I actually think dropping Bob & Tom was a good move. I went to the website of the woody and wilcox and they seem like a real good fit for 106.5

I see The Beat is playing Lady Antebellum and Selena Gomez. Are they turning in to more of a CHR with a rhythmic flavor instead of what they originally launched as (hip hop I think)?

Not to start an argument. But The Beat has never been a Hip Hop station.

The Beat has always played the most popular music POP music that leans Rythmic.

Think of it this way...your parents (or grand parents..or great grand parents whichever the case may be) believed Motown was 'black music'...that The Beatles were 'dangerous' and that Elvis played 'devil music'. In each of those case....people were out of touch and didn't understand the movement of pop music.

The biggest acts in music now are Rythmic\Pop acts. Therefore POP music.

Jim Shafer and a female co-host, not sure of her name but it's on the tip of my tongue. Jim was with Magic 96.1 before coming to Lite in 2004. I think he started out doing afternoons at Lite.

jen byrum...jim and jen...just two more casualities of this nutty business! doesn't have to be that way, does it?

Doesn't have to be that way. Unfortunately, it's how it is now. But, I feel some change is in the air.

Jim also did mornings at Kat Country WKKT back in 1994...

Yes, Mike..they were let go on Friday...that is why I asked and started the post. jen and jim did a great job!

Sorry haven't been listening for awhile, too discouraged with the state of radio today. So few are left on air anymore. Beautiful studios but many are empty.

They're piping in the syndicated 'Valentine in the Morning' show. Just what Charlotte needs, another syndicated show that doesn't give a flip about what's happening in Charlotte.

Yes, I heard rumors of syndication...sad...so very sad. Localism gone....all around. Coffin getting more nails each day.

actually, jim and i came here in '91 and did mornings at WTDR (now KAT) until they bumped him to afternoons and moved Chris Ritchie to mornings with me...I left in '94 and Chris and the girl who took over after me, Allison West, are still doing quite well in Knoxville
jim did some work at 'SOC and for the Hornets before being paired with the Eggman at Magic in '96...and the rest, as they say, is history

Valentine In The Morning actually originates from a Hot AC station, KBIG in LA. But some regular AC's carry it, I think WLIT in Chicago does. I saw where they were hiring for someone local to "babysit" I guess.
