Charlotte Ratings, 100.9 Kicks Link Hinder

I know, they're not even remotely alike in demographics. I just think it's funny that the big FM station in Charlotte that allowed me to board op and nothing more is being beaten by the small town FM that let me run the store.

Yes, quite a drop for WLNK... Anyone want to venture a guess as to when JP "disconnects" Craig, Pam et al? Let the Jack rumors begin anew! :)
______________

WLNK had a nice thing going being straight up Hot AC with B&S mornings and M&R afternoons. Though I love the Pam Stone show, I believe they took it a little overboard with the "comedy relief workday" and then later adding that talk show from Star 94 from 7-10.

If they drop the talk 10-3 and 7-10, go back to their more music workdays and music in the evenings, and toss a few more songs into M&R I believe they can save the sinking ship.

I just wonder if they'll do this, or if 107.9 will become a casualty of the syndicated network.
______________

Hey - Clear Channel is always hiring. Such personalities would be the poster children for their "responsible broadcasting initiative".

Is that Howard Cogan I hear making "Queen City" liners?
______________

Just MY opinion, but I've never cared for "The Clink", since it flipped from Sunny many years back. And I still miss WBCY, but I can't live in the past, can I?

I never really cared for the music on The Link for the most part but that's just me.

I also agree!

I was a huge fan of 107.9 The Link and Atlanta's Star 94 before JP flipped them to talk. Now I avoid them. Both of these JP stations need to bring music back. I think it's time for JP to sell and focus on their core insurance business. The money from selling the broadcasting unit could be put to great use in their core business and these two stations will improve in ratings. WLNK and WSTR have excellent signal strength over their markets and should do better than they are now.
______________

If we could bring back the album-oriented adult format of the early '80s that 'BCY was before they bowed to CHR later in the decade, I'd be VERY excited. Fred Story with his Sunday jazz show...John Boy & Billy in the mornings (before they headed to the NASCAR crowd)...Jeff Wicker...Diane Tracy...boy, that station was hot.

That was the station that WBT-FM flipped to when they left beautiful music behind. It was somewhat a "Jack" format, but it had intelligent announcers and presentation. About the only sophomoric thing they did were the famous "Chickenshirts" that featured the 'BCY mascot (and yes, I still have mine).

Diane Tracey...she was one of my favs. Whatever became of her?
Of course, Jeff Wicker is back in Carolina and has been doing mornings now for a while on "98.7 Simon" in the Triad.

And, I've got an old black, green and yellow "108 WBCY" car tag, and a sticker of the "All Hit 108, WBCY" Logo.

Jeff Wicker - something about him just doesn't sit right with me. I don't know what, but listening to his show for more than a few minutes gets under my skin.

I'm not sure what you mean since I haven't heard him on the air in years. I knew him back when he was at WBCY. You couldn't find a guy who was more up, positive and hard working than Jeff Wicker. He was always super nice and easy to talk to.

I can see a sale of the 2 Atlanta properties they own and possibly San Diego and Miami. They are doing quite well in Denver and WBT isn't going anywhere!

Here's a thought. Keep Pam Stone, who I like, and dump Craig Shoemaker for Al Franken. And dump the 7-10 rebroadcast of Atlanta for another lib talker. I'm not saying turn TheLink into the left version of BT, but Al Franken can't do any worse than Mr. Shoemaker. If you must lose Pam Stone, replace him with Jerry Springer. The people that would listen to Springer are not going to listen to Keith Larson anyway.
______________

I haven't heard Jeff in a decade and a half either, but he was the nicest guy at JP when I started there. Very shortly afterwards, he moved to WZOK in Illinois.

Randy and Spiff were also very nice, but they never remembered me. They introduced themselves to me every single time they saw me. And I was their board op.

Last I knew, Diane Tracey had just taken over the PD position at a station. She was at Sunny 93.9 in Raleigh for quite a while.

Good for her! Let me know what station if you can...I'd like to send her a note congratulating her. I remember Diane as a hard worker and we had some good talks back when I was down the hall at WBT. She loved hearing me play the oldies on the weekends and was nice enough to say she listened.

Yeah, and perhaps Springer can keep a tradition alive by incorporating "Halliburton Shack Fridays".

Really, Franken and Springer's talk realm is completely different than those on 107.9. It would never mesh.
______________

I know it's a different type environment, but it can't be any worse.

I have an idea, go out and hire Francine from 84WHAS in Louisville to do a 12-3 show remotely after her enjoyable, polite, issues show from 9-12. She has guested before in the past.

Also Tera Servatius of CL and Shelia Stewart would be available for local shows.
______________

Listen Girls and Guys,
I know Craig Shoemaker... he's a funny guy, really.
The problem is that his LA producer is not channeling
his talent. His Charlotte guy has his act together, but LA
calls the shots. True, after all this time on the air he
should have all the kinks worked out, but don't take anything
from him as far as his show. His energy simply needs to be
harnessed properly.
Putting Al Franken in place of anyone short of a dead 'possum
is tatamount to fixing a cars' windshield with a hammer.
IT DON'T WERK WORTH A DANG!
Al, stick to writing sketch comedy, it's the only thing you do well.
Sort of.

If you are a comedian, and you have a comedy competition on your show, and even the losers are funnier than you, you have a problem.

Any radio manager worth his salt has GOT to be looking at replacements for this dog of a show.
