Charlotte Ratings April 2023

Charlotte Ratings

WBAV continued their dominant run and matched their 10 year high with an 8.7 share. WOSF had a big increase 4.7 to 6.0 and moved into a tie for second. WKQC, WLNK and WPEG all had big declines. WHQC hit a new record low with a 1.5 share, and also took the crown for the lowest cume of any full market signal (on a format known for high cume and low TSL).

WHQC is done. I don’t think iHeart will change anything really, though. Unless they want to try an urban format (unlikely), there are no practical options. Maybe mainstream AC that plays newer music than 104.7, but more older music and softer than 107.9? Sad, I really enjoyed Channel 96.1 around 2011-2013.

I think part of the problem is outside of the morning show, they don't have any local jocks/presence. The morning show itself is also really weak and unfamiliar. There's no real draw or reason to listen. They should have kept Ace and TJ.

I don't listen to WHQC or WNKS, but just looking at the playlists I actually know and like more songs on WHQC. I don't think the music selection is the problem.

I'm curious as to why both stations are playing Miguel's "Sure Thing" over 115 times when the song is 13 years old, though? WTH?

“Sure Thing” is #1 on the CHR/pop chart right now. It’s one of those songs I think TikTok or social media brought back.
