Charlotte TV Market Now #24

According to Mark Washburn's article in the Big O, Nielsen has now ranked the Charlotte DMA #24. Charlotte has now passed Baltimore in the DMA sweepstakes. Reportedly, Charlotte gained 40,000 TV households in the past year. Pittsburgh is #23 and surpases Charlotte by only 3,000 HH--almost guaranteeing Charlotte will be #23 next year. I think this is great but wonder why the quality of Charlotte TV newscasts goes down each year, even as the market ranking rises each year.

You can say that agin about Charlotte TV looking more and more small market every day. WCNC was the biggest hope, but that new 36 imaging looks worse than some stations in my grandparent's home town in west Texas. it all sort of give you a good idea of how bad local news has become.

I agree..this is not a good look for Charlotte and surrounding..we r becoming bigger and bigger and quality is going down and down..not just n tv, Charlotte market radio sucks as well..step ur game up Charlotte

Yep I turned on the TV during the late morning to find WBTV running an infomercial. 55.1, 55.2 and 55.3 were all running the same religious program! Even with satellite or cable it's getting harder to find something good to watch.

Charloote has grown into such a major city, but it was a large TV market even in the late 1970s. As early as 1975, it was the 34th market, but it was only 3 above the Upstate, which was #37 even then. Florence was tiny, only the #160 market, but the market didn't include Myrtle Beach at the time, as Myrtle was in Wilmington's market until the 80's.

Yes, some of Charleston's stations look just as good as WCCB and WCNC. WCSC has the exact same graphics WBTV does, but you did get HD with WSOC before us in Charleston got it with WCSC.

wcsc and wbtv r owned by the same company..raycom that y they got same grahics..cox owns wsoc. Wcnc owned by belo still not n h.d. Charlotte tv still sucks.

wcbd 2 is the best n charjeston I got fam down there. Most of wsoc staff came from wcbd
