Charter To Buy Bright House For $10.4B

If the Time Warner/Comcast merger isn't approved because of Antitrust concerns, this deal is toast as well.

I'm fine with that. I see no real value in further consolidation of the industry except to the executives of the corporations and Wall Street. It won't result in an improved product.

I see no reason to believe this deal is related to the TWC/Comcast deal. Bright House is the 7th largest cable company by subscribers, and Charter is 3rd.

It's like Ford buying Volvo several years ago. No big deal from a competitive point of view.

It does relate because the two deals are under consideration at the same time. If one is approved and the other is not, it will require some explanation. I stand by my assertion that further consolidation even amongst smaller providers like Charter and BHN offer no benefit to consumers and create antitrust concerns.

Here's your explanation: Antitrust law says nothing about time adjacency.

This could be the trend moving forward. The Hollywood Reporter identified some possible media mergers including Disney perhaps merging with either Viacom or Time Warner. Anyway you cut it we all are going to have to get used to all of the rumors of media companies merging with one another moving forward.
