So i hear CC is going to voice track more afternoon shows with the morning show. I swear to Budda how low can you go???????????

They and Cumulus have tried it so many times in the past with disasterious results. I guess they never learn or until the GM shows a PLUS at the end of the year then they'll hire a live show for 9mos untill they start the whole crazy thing again.

The way radio has been going the past 5 years i see the average on air talent either a mixer or computer geek.

Who are the TOP talk show host bringing in millions of listeners and revenue: Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Howard Stern, Glen Beck, All former Radio DJ/Personalities not Comedians, lawyers, doctors, Real Estate or Info shows or VOICE-TRACKERS.

Another nail in the coffin for radio. Run like hell

Really? Can you give some examples of these "disasterious" results?

Is Cumulus voice tracking anything locally?

I've ben told the Bone has no overnight jock, but I think that goes back to merge Radio and even back to "The Zone".

And I'm pretty sure the Wolf is live and local-

My one other question with this is what markets are we talking about? Because, yeah, while it's a damn shame if CC or Cumulus are doingthis in Dallas, I think it's a completely different animal if we're talking Amarillo, Abilene, or Alvin, Alvin, ALVINNNNNNNN.
Okay, i don't know if Alvin texas even has it's own radio stations, but when I hear small town radio, I understand that they're not making the money to necessarily pay jocks 24-7.

Merge/Zone had evening jocks, but nothing after 10p.

I've worked for Cumulus and have never been aware of them voicetracking an afternoon show with the morning show. I won't say it's never happened, but it was never on the radar at the cluster where I worked nor was it anywhere in the same region. One thing about Cumulus corporate decisions is, unlike many of these Clear Channel cuts, you usually see them coming well before they actually happen.

I don't get these most recent rounds of cuts at Clear Channel. They've cut salespeople and found those people have moved on and taken their accounts with them, and they're making it a point to cut their best people in some of their most crucial dayparts. It really defies logic.

Cuts come every year at budget time. This year was especially deep cause CC is tryin to get sold. It amazes me that they VT middays in a market like Dallas. Lets pipe in some dude from Tampa thats never been to Dallas. Looks like The Eagle wont have near the promo budget of that abortion called Lonestar. As for Cumulus...they may as well VT the Wolf 24-7 the way the personality is GONE from that station.

The personality is gone, but if I recall correctly, the ratings are up for the Wolf, aren't they?

So are you really saying you'd rather have a low rated station with 'personality' than a higher rated station?

They may have an uptick...but that aint hard to do when that station has fallen as far as it has. They sure as hell wont get back to the "good old days" of KPLX ratings by that bland presentation. My original point is they may as well VT if all you get is "that was and this is".

Actually it does! Probably one of the most local, live, and listenable rock station on the Gulf Coast. KACC/Alvin is at 89.7 FM and can be found on the internet at kaccradio.com. Also in the "Alvin Cluster" is KTEK 1110 AM which most in Dallas would be familiar with, as it will soon become Biz Radio's flagship station on February 1st, leaving it's home at KXYZ/Houston.

One would assume that if someone loved that genre he or she was playing, that they would love to be there ti air it live, even in Alvin.

I suppose with the neandrathal playlists, that only a liar could sit there and pretend to be excited about airing some tired old song, or some tired new song....

I guess my point is, that when radio can allow music to be played that the DJ is genuinely exctited about, and genuinely appreciates, then many DJ's would come forward to do that out of a love for the Music that they would be sharing with their local community.

But the point is that in a lot of these smaller markets, they are vocie tracking because it's not cost effective to have a live jock 24-7.

Yeah, somebody might love to be on the air in Alvin. But if teh city of Alvin doesn't have enough buisness to pay that jock, the options are to voicetrack or, as was recently done in Corsicana, just turn the station off...

Now I've got real problems with major corporations voicetracking important dayparts in major markets. But once you get outisde of Am and PM drive, and once you get out of the top 30-40 markets, there's probably good economic reasons to voicetrack...

Guess you missed the memo on that. A buyer was found and KAND 1340 remains on the air. I agree with you, of course, on the other points. Outside of mornings there's not much live programming on KAND.
