cheap channels early Christmas has begun

WLRQ (Lite rock 99.3) has begun their all Christmas format. One of their sweepers had someone talking about their favorite Christmas memories. Well one of my favorite Christmas memories was when radio stations didn't start playing Christmas songs till December. The songs would slowly increase more as the month progressed and sometime on Christmas Eve the station would become all Christmas (commercial free too) till the end of Christmas day. It only seems like yesterday, but it was so nice when they actually celebrated the holiday, not the money they made from advertisers because of the holiday.

I agree. Back in the day (ain't that a bitch? I'm talking as late as the mid 90s) most stations I worked at didn't begin slipping Xmas tracks in until after the first week of December, and didn't begin playing them in earnest until the Winter Solstice.

20 hours a day are VT'd ... can't get much cheaper than that. Cumulus doesn't put up a fight in Brevard anymore in terms of "personalities" so CC has noth'n to lose.

Of course the ratings show it works and people want it. But who cares right? Let's hold off because some radio insiders don't like it.

Instead of starting another thread on this, I thought it would be better to just move this one up. All thoughts remain the same. Perhaps we'll be able to play the cheap channel game Christmas edition once WMGF flips (see the thread entitled "The cheap channel A/C music simulcast" thread on page 2 of this forum for details on how to play).

I'm sure I'm going to hear it, but let's bump this one up again for WMGF is flipping this Friday 11/6 and we all know why. I'm pretty sure WLRQ will follow suit.
