check out my new studios :)

My new radio shack and part 15 am/fm studios in the process of being built in the corner of the living room.

I'm going to run a Hamilton Rangemaster under Part 15.219 and a Professional AM C-QuAM Stereo Exciter and Transmitter in Carrier Current system under Part 15.209. the FM is running under part 15.239 the equipment ranges from just a couple of years old to equipment over 40 yrs old. all in excellent operating condition.

Very impressive! Looks like you've got Cheezits & meds at the ready!

comes up "image doesn 't exist"...consistantly. What's wrong Johnnie??????????????

Hiya, Reverend Johnny Fever,

To echo Marathon Don...very impressive, indeed.

And normally, I would consider this nonemybizniss, but since you posted pix of it all, I gotta ask: did you BUY all this e-kwipment, or was some/all of it donated? One piece at a time like Johnny Cash, spread out over a few years or something? Just curious...looks like I'd have to take a second to afford the kinda gear you got. A full size AutoGram board, no less! Those things aren't cheap by any stretch. And they're quality boards, too! It always makes me wonder when I see an impress-the-pants-off-of-anyone Part 15 facility that looks like a network bankrolled it.

Say hi to Bailey for me... ;D

I have about 10k-15k USD in all this equipment over the years. been aquiring this gear over the last 4 years. don't think any of it was donated.

Rick,

You'd be surprised on how many people take things "seriously" - even for a hobby! There are some nice studios that folks with Part 15 and webcasters have build even though they don't make dime one. They pretty much do it as it's something they enjoy.

Even being in "the biz" for as long as I've been, my own hobby venture of webcasting is taken quite seriously and I've had several staton owners and managers certify me as being "legally nuts" for having gear and studio furnishing better than many non-corporate stations! Below are a couple of pix from the startup build in 2001 to the first launch in 2002:

First build: http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g218/billydee203/studio_build_2001.jpg
Second build: http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g218/billydee203/studio_build_2002.jpg

I ended up moving this stuff to two apartments and now that I bought a house I'm saddened to have to get rid of the furniture (while I had it in my living room in the first apartment and it ended up in the bedroom in the second apartment I decided I needed a living room in my new home and not a "studio"). I'm going to end up donating the furniture to the high school where I work. I'm building up an on-campus Part 15 and webcast station in the newly rennovated high school and it will look real nice in their studio so I don't feel too bad. As for me, I have a small set of Wheatstone furniture I may use if it fits in the target room for my stations - if not I'm going to be forced to build custom furniture which will probably be a better option all around. It will accomodate my webstream as well as giving me room to play with a new Part 15 station I'm going to experiment with as soon as I build the new studio (my webcast "studio" is currently co-located in my furnace utility room during my home rennovation).

By the way, Dr Johnnie Fever - nice digs you've got there!

Are you kidding, I have better equipment than the big boys ;D

And it sounds better too!

Oh, it's analog too... but that's our secret.

You both have very nice studios!

I have a few pics of my little studio I'd gladly share. If someone can tell me where/how to upload them so anyone can see them. :)

For quick 'n' dirty photo sharing I've been using Photobucket, there are plenty of services like it out there (Photobucket is currently free). Once you find a home for them just reference the link for it in your post then everybody can click it to view your pix.

Who says there anything wrong with analog? Oh, and don't worry, it's our little secret ;)

Hey Easy, what kind of console is that? I don't recognize it at all from the pix. BTW: I gotta give you two thumbs up for using what I consider one of the best automation systems around!

Hey Easy, what kind of console is that?

It's an Australian designed and made RME (Radio Manufacturing Engineers). You used to find RME consoles in pretty-well every Australian radio station in the 70s and 80s, but they've gone out of business now. I found this one on eBay and had it shipped to my place in South Australia from a guy who had bought it at an auction in Sydney. Funny thing is, it came out of an ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) studio just across the bay from where I've now installed it when they upgraded to a Logitek Mosaic digital console.

I gotta give you two thumbs up for using what I consider one of the best automation systems around!

Couldn't agree more about StationPlaylist. I started with v4 and it does almost everything I need. And it's absolutely unbeatable for the price. Obviously we have some really smart people in this hemisphere (even if he is a Kiwi!).

Very nice! Thanx for the new link.
An interesting way to install turntables........that is a rare find. It must work well that way.
I loved the cart machines...that is a nice install.

Nice studio, al_atl. I wish I could find an AM Optimod for my Part 15 AM (or even for the high school station I'm building). I'm still thinking I'm going to have to build custom furniture to get everything to look "nice"

Thanks Bill. That was my first try at building studio furniture. It's far from perfect. I know there are several things I'd do different now. But it serves its purpose pretty well. It's very sturdy, all 2x4 framing. It's sturdy enough that we have made the area under the audio board the designated spot for the kids to go in the event of a tornado. That area of the house is also the lowest part of the basement, totally underground.

I tried to do the install "right." I'm sure a good engineer would find things wrong with it. But it all works and is quiet. All audio sources and destinations are on a patch panel, all audio sources that go to more than one destination are on a DA. I probably came up a little short on grounding. I didn't have copper strap so I used big, solid copper wire to ground the racks etc. And there are a few outlet strips that are a no-no. But I haven't been in a facility yet that didn't have that...including the one I'm working in right now.

Speaking of work...back to it!

I'm planning to move my station to larger quarters soon...

Great studio setups in this thread!

Friendlee..I worked on a McMrtin board just like that at my first radio job back in 1979. As recently
as 2000 I believe that station was using the same board! I love the vantage stuff in your station.
