KSCS now beating KPLX (though historically, KPLX has had quite a lead in the 25-54 demos). Needless to say, KPLX has lost more than half its audience when compared to the first half of the decade.
So, does KPLX...
(a) ...assume with KTYS gone, they get that audience since KTYS was created solely for the purpose of flanking KPLX to help KSCS. With that, no need to do anything.
(b) ...figure this is a continuing disturbing downward trend. Perhaps a boring, generic, non-Texas-heavy country playlist combined DJs with their personalities surpressed is not a winning combination in a market that seems to have embraced a country station with some life/attitude/fun to it (KYNG during the '90s, Wolf 1999-2005).
I hope for (b), but suspect (a) will be the outcome...
Other than that...
- KTCK still seems to be chugging along fine with a Hammer-less Hard Line PM drive show
- KRNB seems to have lost audience to KSOC over the last year...kind of surprising given the publicity of some of the K104 staff shifting over to KRNB. I wonder if Radio One will keep the local midday show as a result...they've blown out a lot of established jocks at their other outlets across the country to clear their new syndicated show around Mo'Niqe.
- Another all-time low for KDGE
- Surely this is the first time an owner (CBS) has had 3 full-market FM signals (i.e. Cedar Hill FMs) below a 2 share.
- With KZPS back to full-time classic rock, why is KDBN still around? KDBN couldn't do anything with KZPS mixing in Americana. With that gone, KZPS is slowly rising and KDBN is going nowhere. I bet urban AC on that limited 93.3 signal would be sucessful...it probably could take down KSOC or KRNB quickly since those two miss large areas of their target demo with their rimshot signals. Cumulus owns a lot of urban ACs across other markets...so it's not an unknown format to them either.

I am of the thinking that KPLX needs to go back to what made them GREAT. Life/Attitude/Fun. It has shown to not only work but work very well for The Wolf in the past. Along these lines, I have noticed KPLX get away from using Barry Corbin, and start using very Generic voicetxchipk said:

Maybe so, but still not a full signal Urban AC. Would they be local around the clock. What would they do differently than 105.7 and 94.5. I would be nice to hear Gospel, but most of the Sunday programming would be taken by the Dallas Cowboys Radio Network.

The Bone wants to be the Q102 of Dallas Cowboys football. Even then I didn't think much of Football on the rock station. A better fit would KSCS.... "Cowboys"....
