Check this out....Jax Radio...everyone too...

Well it's never easy to lose a job and I hope for his sake he lands on his feet. But this is never a smart move. The world of radio is too small to burn bridges like this. Plus, whatever job you apply for they will ask for references and he ruined any chance of getting a decent one from Cox.

I think this is a stunt. Rumor has it the Greaseman may be coming back. Greg is heading to California.

The Bear's GOTTA come out of hibernation for this one!
Bravo to Gregg Stepp for putting Bill & Dave's shriveled, worthless, long dormant testicles in a vice and calling them out for the corporate shills that they are. Cox Radio should disband their HR operation, because humanity has nothing to do with it and employee relations are so far removed from their view of programming it's shameful. The long list of top quality broadcasters and plain ol' damn fine human beings that Cox sets adrift in gutless ways is topped now by Gregg Stepp, and the gutting of one of the finest air staffs in the country is complete. Just look at Rock 105's Butchers' Bill of late ... Stepp, Patty Haze, Mark, Genny & Dahmer. They never promoted MG&D or gave them a chance before throwing them away. Everyone else is just what Gregg said ... mere commodities that can be swept away at the whim of a shareholder.
How BAD does morale have to be in that mausoleum Cox built to kill off and drive away all their personalities?
I will keep a candle burning for you Chase, Dave-O, Chris Tyler, Mark & Kris, Tanner & Michelle.
Ugliness, thy names are Bill & Dave.
Viva la Stepp! Viva la Revolucion!

...and why would anyone who has left Cox and seen the Belly of The Beast itself ever want to go back? I would happily spend my days punching a-holes in animal crackers before I sacrificed my soul for them! BTW, it's no stunt. Stepp's NOT a stunt guy. He found out the truth and trumped 'em before he got screwed like Mike Cella did. It really pisses them off when you quit before they can fire you!

Once upon a time, I would have agreed with you Stephen, but not now. These people still in radio that are driving the product into the molten core of the planet don't have much career left themselves so what bridge has been burned? Reminds me of the movie that featured the line about the light in the corner of your eye, that's your career dissipation light blinking. There will soon (and it is going to happen pretty dog gone soon now) be REAL broadcasters back in the business buying back the properties they sold a few years ago for a mere pittance of what they were previously paid and they will enjoy this rather than scorn it.

I do not know Gregg but I applaud the action and wish the best to you and your family!

The Phoenix begins to awaken.........

He has said what alot of us have to say. He has got 2 BIG BRASS ONES

Remember the girl that was a part-timer at that Urban based format station (Was it Georgia...I forget where now) that said "I quit this bitch" after being ridiculed by the morning show and other full-timers and only making $6.00 an hour? She received quite a few job offers. Now SHE has some brass ones. :) I wish Gregg the best of success as he'll land back on his feet.

Gregg,

Don't know you, never heard of you, never heard you. But who cares. What you said and what you did on the air today will likely become a defining moment in radio history. You stood up to the people who f*cked up the industry and said exactly what the rest of us have been thinking for years. And you did it on the air!!

Kudos. You WILL be OK in the end. Take care of yourself and your family FIRST. Everything else will fall into place.

AMEN! Stewy, Fiddler, deff junction, and pocket have hit the nail on the head! Watch the economy head a bit further in the tank, and if there's a bump up in corporate taxes I predict there WILL be a fire sale of radio stations. Big sticks at small prices that REAL broadcasters will snap up. Break out the airchecks and brush up your resumes boys and girls! Showtime is nigh!

Brother,I hope your'e right.I check out stock prices of many of the Broadcast Companies and it is pathetic to see how low prices have dropped. SBS was going for 23 CENTS about a week ago. What is being taught in business school these days? Where did those moronic, stupid empty suits come from? Who is the guru responsible for the current business philosophy?wo AE friends were hounded out of my station because they were making TOO MUCH money. The rest of the sales dept has become a revolving door. Of course, the empty suits are crying poverty. How does someone working on comission make too much money? With an outfit crying poeverty? Lets get the real broadcasters back and put those imbecilic empty ssuits out on the street

WTG, Steve! If only there were more personalities like you who would stand up to the empty suits, stockholders and consultants there may be hope for radio after all!

Cox...sounds appropriate to me!

It’s clear, as The Great 2008 American Meltdown continues every part of our economy is being affected. And some radio groups will be history. It will be like watching a giant yard sale as well funded investors come in and buy up radio assets cheap. It will be sad watching great empires brought to its knees over a cheap hoer, named greed. But make no mistake, these greedy radio bastards were like drunken sailors on leave, believing their own twisted hype and lies, while overpaying for assets that now threaten their very existence. And to think, they thought, nothing could bring them down, not even a cheap hoer named greed. Remember this, no body gets it for free.

And so the cycle will start again, new players will pay far less for assets and thus new, operators with fresh ideas can tolerate market turbulence while operating in a depression. The government will have a vested interest in getting dark stations going again, for the safety of Americans. Bailouts offers to radio wont’ be made because we’ll be out of money.

Boys & girls fasten your seatbelts and prepare for a rocky ride, it’s going to get dam ugly.

It's the Great 2008 American Meltdown, brought to you by Honda.

What's really really sad is that Bob Neil, Cox's CEO? He was a programmer, and actually, a smart one.

Souls get lost along the way, sometimes.

Back to Greg, awesome move, better than most radio I hear these days, and if I had a full time opening, I'd be wanting to talk to him NOW.

hahahhahaha rotfl. this was vary funny and cool all at the same time. i think this will get through to a lot of people. i wished i was there to hear this in real life but the air check is funny just the same. i hope the best for greg. i don't even live in jacksonville but this guy was right on the money and he said what a lot of people are thinking right now. i bet a lot of people heard this as wwell.

You guys are unbelievably gullible.

Gregg was hired for a job in Bakersfield 2 weeks before his "on-air rant". He sent a goodbye email to co-workers inside the building. The next week "rumors" about Greaseman's death hit the internet. Mysterious youtube videos are posted. Suddenly Gregg throws his "spontaneous" rant on the air. A day later he is having drinks with his program director at Dave and Busters. Believe it when I tell you he left the building on great terms with everybody, including Bill and David.

Everybody has bought in to what is SO obviously a stunt. It was ALL an act.

if it really was a stunt...and it's beginning to appear that way...
it certainly was a well-executed stunt.
