Border Media San Antonio is looking for a Caretaker of its main broadcast studios for KHHL-FM in Karnes City Texas. This is a part-time position not exceeding 35 hours a week. Responsibilities include the maintaining of broadcast studios through the direction of Border Media San Antonio and maintaining and making available the Public File when requested. Candidates must be reliable and have a basic understanding of broadcast studio setup and FCC Main Studio rules and regulations.

I bet this job is to babysit all the formats that run off computer including KTFM soon. No Jocks.

Get out while you can!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All stations must maintain a "main studio" capable of program origination within 25 miles of the "city of license".

The studio must have at least one full time staff employee that is available to provide access to the public inspection file during "normal business hours", usually 8a to 5p, M-F.

Looks to me like BMP is simply complying with the FCC rules as a good licensee should. Give them credit for that.

IIRC-- radio evangelist Paulino Bernal got burned when the FCC showed up at his San Marcos station, KUOL-AM, and found the place locked up and couldn't find anyone to let them in. The place just relays programs from the home station in the valley and he had apparently arranged for the pastor of a local church to be the attendant and contact person for the public file. But the point person wasn't answering his phone.

It can also be located within the citygrade signal contour of the strongest station (radio or TV) licensed to the same city. Of course, in the case of Karnes City, KHHL will be the strongest station!

Yeah I remember that. Same thing happen in Boerne, TX when he used to own KBRN. In fact, most of his stations are all off the air right now because of his inability to maintain a main studio in the cities where they are located. Every station he has from KMFM in Premont, KDFM and KLDS in Falfurrias, KIBL in Beeville, etc etc are all off the air right now. In fact, even a bunch of his non commercial stations which could operate with a main studio waiver are off the air also. He also has dozens of translators that are currently off the air and have been for the past couple of years. I think he eventually just bit off more then he could chew (financially speaking) and he is now forced to shut down all these stations. What amazes me is how he hasn't got busted for having all these stations off the air and not having any current silent STA's on them. K240CW has been off the air for over 3 years now. I can understand going a few months and not getting caught but years?? I can only imagine what mess he has going on with all his other stations all over California and New Mexico.

How about that upgrade application for KBRN from 250 to 1,900 watts? I recall that Gerald Benavides (or Claro Communications?) got approval for it, but that was five years ago. Is it time to declare it officially dead?

Thanks, Clouseau, I missed that one. Seems like there's a lot of sloppy work out there.

Maybe you've already heard about it, but on an unrelated note (sort of) I was reading a while back about a corporate engineer basically accusing a consulting engineer of falsifying readings on an upgrade application here in Texas. In particular the elapsed time between some of the readings would have been physically impossible due to the distance between the points, and one such point was found to be in the middle of a lake. (I didn't post anything about it since the engineer whose readings are in question is quite well known, but you can PM me if you like for details. It's an interesting read.)
