Check this Video Of KGO 7 Oprah Promo from 1992 to 1994 Its like the KCAL9 Promo

Thanks for that - fun to watch. Not really surprising, though. It's obvious from listening that the lyrics are easy to change-up for whatever market wants to buy the promo. Just write the new lyrics, call the singer, and schedule a quick recording session.

In the 80s, KGO-TV briefly used one of those "newsy" sounding musical packages for the opening, end credits, and commercial bumpers. The same music showed up a few weeks later on CNN for their early evening news hour. Maybe for that reason, KGO dropped it, and went back to the old "Cool Hand Luke" music.

Its Based on the KCAL9's News Package Decade 90 in 1990. Look CBS5 in SF in 1996 had to Drop Allegro because ABS-CBN/ TFC Philippines took their news package.

That's interesting. I can see dropping a musical package because a percentage of your viewers are seeing the same one on CNN, but why would KPIX drop a package used in the Philippines?

Answering my own question - perhaps because the SF Bay Area has more Filipino residents than any city outside of Manila.

KTSF airs ABS-CBN's TV Patrol at 6pm in the Bay Area
