Liberal or conservative doesn't really matter. What matter is what an individual can get for themselves. In this case Danson wanting more money.
What is a bit of irony here is that "Becker" didn't last very long after Farrell was let go. Even the actor who played 'Bob' left the show before it was finally canceled.
