Cheryl Keck

Off topic (TV) but does anyone know what happened to Cheryl Keck, who used to work at 10 and Bay News 9? I saw an obit for her (age 47) in the paper yesterday? I could tell you a lot of stories about Al Keck, but...

She committed suicide according to the Times:
Former TV reporter dies in apparent suicideCheryl Keck was a former TV journalist who most recently helped produce police education and training programs at St. Petersburg College.Keck, 47, died Saturday of an apparent suicide.Keck, the estranged wife of WFTS-Ch. 28 sports anchor Al Keck, was discovered in a hotel room at the Sleep Inn Motel in Ellenton, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office. She had a single gunshot wound to the head and was holding a pistol.Sheriff's officials said Keck, a Largo resident, had been reported missing to St. Petersburg police, who could not confirm the report.A memorial service was Thursday at Starkey Road Baptist Church.
What an awful story. I remember hearing a story about Al [EDIT]. It sounds like the marital problems were too much for her to handle.[EDIT*=non verifiable comments. Could be construed as slander. When posting comments like this please post a verifiable reference. Thank you.]

That is such a sad story. Al Keck was on last night. Even with an ex-wife, wouldn't you take some time off?

Not everyone handles grief the same way. Just because he is still going to work doesn't mean it isn't affecting him personally.

First, if you're going to post Al's arrest, post the fact that there were NO CHARGES filed, and, in fact, Cheryl recanted her claims: http://pqasb.pqarchiver.com/sptimes/access/847783991.html?dids=847783991:847783991&FMT=FT&FMTS=ABS:FT&date=Jun+1%2C+2005&author=&pub=St.+Petersburg+Times&edition=&startpage=4.B&desc=WFTS+sports+anchor+won%27t+face+charge+Series%3A+BRIEFLY(sorry for the lengthy link... I can't find the article on the site without using the SP Times archive function)Now I know people who've worked with both of them, and there's a lot more to both this story and Cheryl's suicide that I won't talk about here due to the fact that I respect the family's privacy, but I will say this: -yes, it is a tragedy that she chose to take her own life, -but it's even more of a tragedy to the children she left without a mother, -and Al was off the air almost all of last week, and if he chooses to be back on the air this week, it's entirely his decisions, and he doesn't owe anyone any explanations.

Suicide is the biggest act of cowardice that anyone could ever do. If they ever thought about what it does to the people that have to wonder what happened, like family and friends, they might not ever do it. It is the cowards way out. Cant sugar coat what it is. I have seen the results personally 3 times in my life with people close to me. The closest I'll ever say it wasnt their own fault was two of my friends got really messed up in VietNam. They both blew their brains out rather than face the demons they couldnt live with. Devasted their families. I'm sure it happened here too.... Sad...
