Chez 106/Ottawa: The Good Ol' Days

Remember when CHEZ 106/Ottawa was a ground-breaking, out of the box AOR?
They'd play everything from Elvis Costello to Split Enz to Loverboy to Blue Rodeo.

Now...they sound like every other classic rock station in the country.

Try BOB, we regulary play all 4 you mentioned :)

It's not the same...Chez was classy and played a lot of deep stuff.
The DJ's were knowledgable and their presentation was simple.

I love the CanCon, but Bob just plays the "hits".

How come Canadian CHR & Hot AC DJ's are so corny?

true...they are part of rogers and seem to have the style of programs.

This thread is taking me back to the days when the Smith Falls station was an easy listening station,(101.1 FM) Chez 106 was the sister station, and both stations were independantly owned.

Today, Chez is owned by a Monster(Rogers Broadcasting) that refuses to take risks like the little guy once did.

Kudos to BOB FM for being an excellent variety hits station, thank-you Bob FM staff (at Chum group Ottawa) for trying your best so far.

Taking requests DOES help, and thanks for NOT being another 92.3 JACK FM. (Smiths Falls)

The "American" Jack/Mike/Bens suck. One of the reasons the format works in Canada is because it uses the CanCon regs to their advantage.

When I was home (in Potsdam/Massena) in May...I heard Bob FM play The Jitters "Last Of The Red Hot Fools". I hadn't heard that song since 1987!!

Umm...cool! thanks. The 'whatever' lunch is the most fun part of the day for sure.

One COULD thank Rogers for actually taking the risk of launching Xfm.
If if failed so bad, that a new format was due, why is New Cap in so much of a rush to get something back on the air that Rogers abandoned? (Live 88five was approved for broadcast by CRTC.)<P ID="signature">______________

It's not always that simple. Rogers felt Xfm wasn't a great fit with their other Ottawa properties. Apparently NewCap feels differently.
