Chicago Arbitron Radio Ratings: December 2011

On WIQI (and NYC's WEMP) :

Paraphrasing a great line from a wit on the New York forum who's called D To The J -- so, of course, they're going to try this format in Philadelphia next.

Hey wnnniqi101 is beating WTMJ, what are you knocking them for? That Randy Michaels man is awesome.

Prediction: 101.1 will eventually be LMA'd or sold (again) to Disney/ESPN or Univision.

I'll be very surprised if the all-news format makes it to January 1, 2013. Trading a 2.0 share w/ decent in-demo numbers for a 0.3 share, higher overhead, and a pathetic cume of ~250,000 seems incredibly irrational to me, and this station has got to be losing money hand-over-fist right now.

On a semi-related note, Clear Channel ought to dump the Spanish-language Hot AC format from 95.5 and flip it to a replica of Philly's WRFF.

And they actually bought up a station in Philly. Granted, real estate is cheaper now but still, you would think they'd get their house in order at New York and Chicago before taking their format elsewhere. I wonder how many cities they'll try this in before their investors realize that they made a bad choice. I'd be very surprised if 2012 doesn't spell the end of the world (for Merlin Media that is). Let's hope it happens before next Christmas. This December has been terrible in New York without a rock station daring to touch something other than the same old songs that the AC stations play every 15 minutes.

Oh yeah, thinking that women will line up in droves for constant discussions about chocolate and other "lifestyle" issues is awesome. I'll bet my all of my savings that you can find more girls who would rather listen to Q101 and RXP (and even the more male aimed active rock) than chick news. Granted, I heard that they toned down on the chick material but still.
