CHICAGO ARBITRON RATINGS: May 2011

How long will it be before Q101 and Fresh Flip? Glad to see WLS FM doing well. No movement on K Hits yet? Might take a few months before we can get a pulse on how they are truly doing.

WLS-FM has never sounded better and I am delighted to see them having some good results from it! You're right, it's a little early to make judgments on K-Hits, though it is not as early as it once was. They really haven't moved the applause meter much as yet. I wonder how Eddie and Jobo are doing for them.

Personally, I prefer WLS-FM and tend to stick with them OR with the VERY well programmed V-103 (when I am in the mood for soul). But, K-Hits does have a solid presentation and very good personalities. I just don't care for the music mix as much as I enjoy 'LS. Not to mention that Dick Biondi is a legend.

Dick Biondi is outstanding and so is his show. His Friday night request program is a must listen.

Agree 110%! It is appointment listening for me as well.

A bit of a throwback to an earlier era when jocks took requests, yet Biondi manages to keep it fresh. Love how they let him open the playlist nice and wide to do his thing. There are few places left where you can still hear this kind of radio done. I can't applaud WLS-FM's management enough for letting Biondi loose on Friday nights!!

Agreed & wish they'd let Biondi do it more often. He knows the music better than anyone.

When is this "one year" for Fresh to turn around up? They obviously aren't going to, lol. I bet CBS will drop it like a hot potato...

I think it's July.
Still betting on 670 getting 105.9 as a simulcast. There is no way I can see CBS keeping Fresh.

Fresh stayed the same in March and April then went down in May. Im surprised CBS hasn't changed it. It might be making some money somewhere.

They gave a one-year period for them to turn things around. That's why I'm saying it'll probably be toast as soon as that time is up.

The one year period is in July or August I believe. I think CBS will go with WBBM on 105.9

Agreed, especially if KQX goes news.

I tend to agree as well. The WBBM franchise is very valuable and CBS cannot afford to permit any listener erosion to take place. However, I'd add that the timing depends on what exactly Randy Michaels has in mind for 101.1. Yeah, they say news or news/talk, but the devil is in the details. An FM talker with some news (going against WLS and WGN) probably wouldn't threaten CBS very much and they'd have more time to decide what they're doing. A heavier news emphasis, however, would likely send CBS scrambling.

Either way, WBBM will eventually come to FM. It's too valuable and too expensive to leave solely on AM forever. It's just a matter of when.
