This season the Chicago Bears only have 1 game scheduled on Monday night football, and that game will happen on October 9th, and for a second year in a row they are playing the Minnesota Vikings. And this will be their second and last night game of the season following last night's game with the Green Bay Packers. And the game will also be seen on WGN TV along with ESPN, can never understand why they do this sort of thing, when you should think at the very most all cable companies should have the two ESPN channels ESPN and ESPN 2, even if they don't have the others, but NFL has rules that games have to be seen in local markets on a tv station. And WGN TV will be carrying the game on tv, for those of you might want to watch that don't have cable.

Still it silly in my opinion, I mean I would think that all homes with cable will have at least ESPN and ESPN 2, even if they don't have the other ESPN channels
Because ESPN covers about 80 or 85% of the important (read: Market #3) Chicago TV market. WGN-TV covers 100% of it. 100 > 80.
but for the folks who either dont have cable (for whatever reason) or folks who have just lifeline cable (and therefore does not have ANY ESPN) they can still see the game via a local station. Also with these new "skinny" packages some cable companies have where you dont need to subscribe to sports programming if you dont want to you can still see the NFL game.
The NFL has a rule in its TV contract that if a game is on cable the 2 primary markets (that is the home market of the teams playing) it HAS to be shown on local TV (there use to be the blackout rule if it didnt sell out but that has been taken out of the equation the last few years).
Even after a couple of months, I can't imagine why anybody would not want to have cable tv
Unless you're a sports fan (where we're still pretty much stuck), there is almost zero need for cable anymore. Plenty of entertainment choices on-air and online that don't require a cable/satellite subscription.
Not so with most non-pro sports, especially college basketball. All pro leagues other than the NFL are available online, but out-of-market, Sunday afternoon NFL still requires Sunday Ticket on DirecTV, and MNF is still the property of ESPN. 90% of college basketball (including 3/4 of the NCAA Tournament) and about 2/3 of college football (including almost all bowl games) air strictly on cable channels.
The Chicago Bears have only one Monday nightfall game this season, and that is tonight with the Seattle Seahawks also their home opener and you can catch it on regular tv on WLS (ABC)
