TJ, good to see you on the Boards, again. How's that radio history book coming along?

Hey Douglas:

The history lists are going great. But getting info on exact dates is the real problem. Many people in the industry have helped me (AND THANKS TO ALL OF YOU) but there is some info I haven't been able to get. As you can see I am on Chicago now. Just finished Detroit and Philadelphia and New York.

Thanks for asking!!

Hey Guys:

I am having trouble with the history of WBBM-FM. Here is my list so far. Any input would be great.

1. Dec 1, 1966 WBBM-FM Young Sound Mon-Sun 6am-12 mid Sim AM 12mid to 6am

2. Sept 1, 1967 WBBM-FM Young Sound 24 hrs.

3. Oct 4, 1970 WBBM-FM Progressive AOR

4. April 8, 1973 WBBM-FM Top 40 Here is a link of Music survey I found. (http://www.las-solanas.com/arsa/surveys_item.php?svid=18267)

5. 1976 (Anybody know the exact date) WBBM-FM Mellow Rock or AC. Wikepedia says that " In the late '70s, the station morphed to a rhythmic top 40 format focusing on disco and R&B." I saw no info on this format. Most of the yearbooks say it was Mellow Contemp.

6. May 3 1982 WBBM-FM Top 40 Hot Hits

If I forgot any formats please put in your input.

Thanks

I can't recall WBBM-FM ever being disco, but I know you are close on your other dates and exact on the Top 40 date. Mike Joseph consulted that "Hot Hits" format that started May 3, 1982.

Re: Chicago FM Format History Help. WMRO-FM WAUR-FM 107.9

Hey Guys:

Thanks for all of your help. I was wondering if anybody would know the format history of 107.9 from 1964 to 1988?

I see that 107.9 went on the air in Sept of 1964 as WMRO-FM and had separate programming from AM 1280. Would anybody know what the format was?

Then in 1970 is changed to WAUR-FM when it was sold to WAUR-FM INC. Would anybody know what the format was here?
There was no listings of formats (Just said "Music, News") in the yearbooks from 1970 to 1973.

In the 1974 yearbook the format was listed as "Jazz, Semi classics, contemp"

And in the 1975 to 1981 yearbooks it was listed as MOR.

In the 82 and 83 yearbooks it was listed as "Gold Rock".

The 84 to 88 yearbooks there was no format listings at all.

I have been doing research and can't find any info on this station. Thnaks for your help on this one.

T.J.

I do recall that WAUR had a gold based AC format in the late 70s through the 80s, but as far as the earlier years are concerned I don't know. They also had a Saturday night disco show in the early 90s.

Hey Guys:

First I want to say thanks to all of you who have helped me with these questions.

I was hoping you guys can help me with some more stations I have question marks on.

Would anybody know the exact dates of these changes:

1. WCLR-FM from Beautiful Music to Soft AC?

2. WCLR-FM from Soft AC to Mainstream AC?

3. WOPA-FM 102.7 Progressive Rock to WGLD-FM?

4. WEAW 105.1 to WOJO Spanish?

5. WYLL 106.7 from Contemp Christian to Religous Talk?

6. WLAK 93.9 from Beautiful Music to Soft AC?

7. WWEL calls to WLAK? I saw an article that said it changed around the end of Feb 1972.

8. WCCQ to Country?

9. WKKD from Beautiful Music to AC and AC to Oldies?

10. WPNT AC the point to Hot AC FM 100?

Thanks guys for help on these questions. I have been trying to find info on these but no luck.

T.J.

Hey Guys:

I actually found this from doing some more research.

1. WWEL-FM to WLAK-FM Feb 28, 1972

2. WLAK to Soft AC in the Summer of 1983.

3. WPNT from AC to Hot AC FM 100 Jan 1, 1995.

Good job. Sorry I couldn't help, but I don't remember the dates. What I do remember is doing my college homework to WWEL in the early 70s.
It was perfect music to study by.

Hey Guys:

I just found out from an article I read on a WRC-AM tribute site that the WKYS calls in DC were to be in Chicago on 101.1 and WJOI calls were to be in DC on 93.9 but the NBC brass decided to swap the calls. Interesting. So WRC-FM went to WKYS on Oct 30, 1972 so I think WMAQ-FM went to WJOI around the same time or even the first of Jan of 1973.

Any thoughts? Love your input.

I'm looking forward to the book!

Please include something on WGLD. As you know, they were oldies and the station WFYR targetted when Ernie Anastos was sent to town by RKO General in 1973. 'GLD was owned by Sonderling and featured Morgan Moore's "Femme Forum" talk show. There is a nice piece about the station in Wikipedia either under V-103 or the call letters WGLD, can't remember for sure.

Hey Guys:

Would anybody know the format of WRMN FM 94.3 from 1964 to 1972 when it became WJKL-FM? Was it Beautiful Music or Pop Stds?

I do know that WRMN FM simulcasted WRMN-AM from Sept 1960 to 1964 and WJKL-FM MOR went to Progressive Rock Sept 15, 1974.

Thanks

T.J.
