Chicago Jack?

Chicago is the BEST radio market in the country. It may be #3 as far as population goes but when it comes to talent and innovation, Chicago is tops. Radio colleagues in Chicago, has a station there tried the Jack format yet? I say it's a hodge podge, directionless format. What do Chicago radio people say?

2 are currently doing it...

WJMK as 104.3 Jack FM and the combo of WRZA(Park Forest-99.9)/WKIE(Arlington Heights-92.7)/WDEK(DeKalb-92.5) as Nine-FM.

IMHO Nine has the better implementation as they have jocks and are not just a jukebox with commercials as well as having a better playlist.

Agreed. When i do listen to fm, it's almost always 9fm. I listened to 104.3 when it switched for a few minutes. Have not listened since.

However, Jack has the better ratings, thanks to the fact that the Nine stations are rimshots that don't cover the entire area. It hasn't been the smash success it's been in other markets, but the demos are satisfactory to Infinity--so far.

Also, some don't consider Nine a true "Variety Hits" station, since it has a much larger playlist and plays more stiffs and currents than most VH stations like the Jacks and Bobs.

Which doesn't suprise me considering the ownership.
