Chicago Jocks on Sirius or XM

Are there any former Chicago jocks on Sirius or XM? Who would you like to see step up to a nation-wide microphone? I personally think Bob Stroud or Dick Biondi would be great for a nation-wide audience.

On a related note...
I was just listening to Sirius "Classic Rewind". Mark Goodman, the former MTV VJ, took a shot at Steve Dahl between songs! He talked about today being an anniversary of Disco Demolition and said that it was "pure stupidity" for anyone to hate any particular kind of music.

I don't listen to Mr. Dahl. However, I have to say that DD was pure genius! I never thought I'd hear his name mentioned on satellite radio.
 
I agree, I think the Disco Demolition promotion is a textbook example of a perfect radio station promotion! How many other stunts do people talk about 26 years later? Not to mention the national attention it still gets!

Yes, look at how well the station's done billing wise in the last 10 years. I think we still talk about the A bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki too. So what.

Has your life really been that destroyed because you now have to go on the Internet or buy an HD radio to hear "Satisfaction," "My Girl" and "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" three times a day? I'm not wild for no DJs or Snarky Image Voice, but it's been proven that a sizeable portion of the audience hates DJs and wants more variety in their music. Jack's not perfect, but it is showing that the radio industry is trying to correct its errors.

My life has been GREAT since I subscribed to XM satellite radio two years ago. I just like to stop in here once in a while to rattle the terrestrial radio guys.
 
I bought XM as a curiosity a little over 2 years ago. I didn't think I'd become so attached to it. Nowadays, with the exception of 720 WGN, it's the only radio I listen to.

With XM, there are no "try to be funny in 15 seconds"-type DJ's or six minute stopsets. I also like the fact it takes forever to scan thorough all the channels. There's ALWAYS something on.

Plus, Opie & Anthony (and Lil' Jimmy Norton) have the funniest (and smartest) show on radio.

I'm with you!
I couldn't tell you the last time I even listened to a FM station.
The only time I'll listen to AM is for the Sox games when in my car.
When I first bought my XM it was 50/50 between XM and radio in my car, now Its 100% XM when in my car. Chicago radio just seems to get worse and worse.

Umm, if that's the case then those people should buy an iPod or listen to your CDs. It's that simple. Just don't screw up radio more than it already is.

It's not just Chicago radio. Radio all over the country sucks! People who wouldn't have been hired to mop the floors are suddenly the "next big talent" for Clear Channel, Infinity and Cox Radio. Absolutely terrible. What does AFTRA do these days to protect the performers? Nadda...<P ID="signature">______________

You are an industry vet. You have done your time and been around. You know 1st hand, the breeding grounds for future jocks, weekend gigs, overnights, small town radio, are gone. They are VT or on the bird. So you have a batch of people, some bad and some good, which are thrown on air, and you get sub par performance.

Couple that with the constant pounding of "people don't want jocks, read liner cards within 10 seconds between tunes or stopsets, time/temp/weather is not "in" on a CHR........." and the consolidation of the 90's, the biz not to play music and entertain but the biz of playing COMMERCIALS and all else is "filler" in between just to please investors, running the operations on the cheap, which will come back to bite the big Corps when those with their heads in the sand will have to come up and get some sunlight and actually breathe, AND, take responsibility for where this has ended up, among all the competition. Don't get me wrong, there were places to trim fat, but this is taking it way too far.

As far as AFTRA, they are in it for the money. About the only thing, depending on the situations is, they can negotiate a contract that will cover the jocks somewhat. The jocks at WCBS were blown out. @ WJMK they were not. The jocks at JMK most likely had better contracts drafted in situations like this where in the long run, they will get most in not all their salaries, when INF decides it is better to pay them off and the momentum of another outlet flipping has passed up.

That is just scratching the surface, but I think hits the spot.<P ID="signature">______________
