Clearly, 101.1's listeners are the ones who keep cutting over to BBM and WGN, given it's 0.4 rating. And plenty of advertisers went with Q101, as it billed $13 million in it's final year. What's your precious chocolate and purses news station billing? I'd be surprised the number has 7 digits.

I don't work for Merlin. Besides, Walt Sabo left and took the chocolate with him a long time ago and 101.1's now a more mainstream take on all-news. And most people say that it takes at least a year for a news-talker to gain an audience--it's not an instant thing.

You're little more than an industry sycophant if you think theMerlin FM News format, either in Chicago or New York, will ever gain traction.

It doesn't look like the "younger"/more upbeat approach they took has helped them any, nor has the flip of Fresh to WBBM.

And as for revenue, unfortunately, the list of top-billing stations is just the Top 10. I would still bet that after KROQ and its 30-year heritage position in the format, the next modern rocker (the correct term, since commercial "alternative" stations haven't been alternative since college radio stopped playing Nirvana and Pearl Jam) would be way, way down the list.
And why do you ignore the REAL alternative stations--WNUR, WZRD, WLUW and WHPK?
