Chicago,Next NYC?

It is an interesting concept. Recreate Music Radio 77 on WABC-FM. But with WCBS-FM currently doing that (in a way) there may not be an opening in NYC.

95.5 FM had a chance to become WABC-FM back in 1982 or in 2005, but it obviously did not happen. Citadel seems to be content with the billings that WPLJ is bringing in today.

Heh. When it comes to billing, I don't think Citadel is ever content. But, then neither are most of these companies.

If there was some strategic reason they would benefit somehow from denting CBS-FM's ratings, and taking a couple of their shares away, it would be a good idea.

I doubt they would be able to overtake CBS-FM, though, and they might wind up with the same ratings they have now as a hot AC, except older.

They could run it cost-effectively, though, by making use of Shannon's True Oldies satellite feed.

There had been a rumor many years ago that WCBS-FM picked up Dan Ingram as quickly as they could out of fear he would be the center piece of oldies on WABC-FM.

As Citadel is now marketing the True Oldies Channel much better than ABC did, getting that on an FM in NYC seems like a step they will take. That possibility could be why CBS-FM quickly returned to oldies when they Jack failing.

The Chicago True Oldies station is going local with new calls, WLS-FM and, apparently, a different mix of music. I guess being so low (19th in last trend) in 25-54 proved a difficult sell.

And considering that WPLJ looks to be a better still performer in PPM in the sales demos, that is all the more reason to leave it alone.

It's amazing --- it took until mid-2008 for the radio brains to finally learn YOU CAN GO BACK to
what was... crazy, isn'tit. Those independent owners that were fools of yesterday actually had it
right in some ways. Like competiting for #1, etc. Bring back the good in radio...ban the letter "C."
That's a half-joke.
