From Robert Feder, Chicago Sun-Times:
WCPT progresses beyond Air America

As rumors of financial trouble swirl around the liberal Air America Radio Network, Chicago's outlet for progressive talk unveiled a new morning show Monday. But what's most notable about the debut of "The Bill Press Show" is that it doesn't come from Air America..

Other points:
  • WCPT continues to clear Jerry Springer in syndication; its only remaining AAR Network shows are Franken and Randi
  • Feder quotes the GM as saying the station will look for the best talent from whatever source and remains committed to the progressive talk format.

Springer's TV show is produced in Chicago and he lives and does his radio show from Chicago part of the time. That Chicago connection may have been a factor in the station's decision to keep Jerry on their schedule.
WCPT is a daytime only rim-shot in Crystal Lake, IL with partial coverage of the Chicago market.
Even so, their Arbitron share is comparable to other turnkey stations with far superior signals.

Actually the station provides fairly good coverage to the Chicago area when it running full power.

I think for a turn key, it does a good job with local news inserts, CNN, Aaron Freeman commentary and traffic reports. All wedged in with few process errors.

You all might want to listen to the station. they stream at www.wcpt850.com.
