Hi everyone! I had the great pleasure of visting Chicago, the greatest city on Earth, over the weekend, and here's my outside opinion on Chicago radio.
I happen to live in Columbus, Ohio (market #35), and was born in Elgin a long time ago, so I do get back to Chicago at least once a year (still have relatives there), my first of this year this past weekend, and will be back in August for the Reds/Cubs game (Go Cubs!). Being in the suburbs (Bartlett), I had access to a lot of stations, and mainly found myself listening to actual Chicago Station, mainly 103.5 Kiss FM and 99.5 WUSN-FM. Comparing 103.5 to the CHR station here in Columbus (WNCI-FM)...a lot of same sounding liners/sweepers/etc (both are owned by Clear Channel), I though Kiss was a lot better with their music selection than WNCI has, and the jocks wern't too bad either. There was a live remote going on when I was listening on Saturday, and it sounded well. I also happen to like WUSN as well, but they sound just like every other country station out there, so they didn't impress me (besides their GM-Dave Robbins used to be here in Columbus). I did check out "Nine FM" and wasn't impressed by them. I also listened to WLUP-FM and didn't hear any of the jocks, but the music was a typical rock station. I also listened to WGN during the Cubs game, and did check out WLS as well (sure do miss the "Musicradio" days), and noticed it was Tony Snow, and flipped back over to FM.
I sure do miss the 80's/early 90's Chicago Radio, but it's still better than what I have here in Columbus, Ohio!
