Chicago signals in Tampa

Just got back from my honeymoon. Man, is radio in Aruba different! I wish I had something more than a clock radio to try to catch skip signals with.

From Aruba, the wife and I ended up in Tampa for 2 days. Just for fun, I went to the AM band in the rental car to see what Chicago stations I could pick up. 780 WBBM was loud and clear on Thursday night from Clearwater Beach. I could not pick up anything else from Chicago.

Going further South, it was great to hear Scott Miller, formerly of WJMK, again on 107.9 in Sarasota. I had forgotten that he was there until I recognized his voice.

Scott Miller was (is?) doing Sunday evenings, 5-9, on WRLL, 1690 AM, via VTing.

From central Ohio, about 280 miles from Chicago, WMVP has the best consistent skywave signal of the five big 50Ks, followed by WBBM, WGN, WSCR and WLS in that order. As written elsewhere here, WLS doesn't get out well at all.

On my old walkman, i was only able to get wbbm 780. all the other ones diddn't come in at all. 780 was occasionally very strong. When i put my walkman against the light pole (i was bored waiting for the school bus) it got tons of stations, most mainly mexican/spanish..
