Chicago...you're getting a dance station!

The station would be WLFM-LP Rochelle/Chicago (Low Power TV Channel 6, 87.75 FM), which has an application pending to broadcast from the John Hancock Tower in downtown Chicago.

Thanks to Scott Fybush for the technical information.

I would prefer to see all the 88.1s in Chicago move to 87.9 and up the power. Can't they knock the LPTV off by doing this?

For some reason the FCC's website still shows an Application and a Construction Permit for WLFM-LP on Channel 6, but the the station has been on the air for around a year already.

When the channel moved from 55 to 6, it was an affiliate of 'MTV Tres' but that was replaced by a Spanish language TV network. I think the station has been planning to become a radio station for a while because the audio has improved and the stereo light is not actiavted. I never saw a stereo light on my radio when listening to Channel 6 from Milwaukee.

Does anyone know when the government will require low power analog TV stations to switch to digital? When that happens, this new Dance format at 87.75 will no longer be received on any radios (including HD radios). The programmers will have to find a new home, or fans of Dance music could listen thru digital televisions. I noticed that the station has an application to flash-cut (from analog to digital, while remaining with the same channel number).

I used to enjoy listening to the internet stream of Russian-language CHR from Channel 6 in New York before they flipped to Dance.

Sorry, I meant to say "the stereo light is now activated" but I could not see how to modify my message.

Originally the Channel was mono when it aired 'MTV Tres', but they switched to stereo with a stronger signal a few months ago.

Yes, the signal seems to go out quite far. Alot farther than the map on the FCC's website. Presently the station can be easily received in Lake County, and it may go out even farther after WITI Milwaukee vacates Channel 6 in June 2009.

Out of curiosity what do these "Channel 6 radio stations" air on their video carrier? Certainly they can't just run black.

Some run a slideshow (logos, local bulletin board, etc.), or do studio cams during live shows. I think they have to have something there, but it can be just a static logo screen.

Good--Chicago will finally have something to watch on channel 6.

This station really has a good signal, I was out in Morris the other day and it came in perfectly clear. It has better coverage
than the FCC map shows.

From the t-t-t-t-t-t-t-t-t-t-t-t-t-top of the John Hancock Tower..87.7 WLFM Chicago...sounds sick by just typing this 8)

I've heard the station here in Lake Geneva, WI. I've also heard them "fighting" with WITI's audio that I sometimes listen to in the car.
