Ideas on formats, positions and average salaries? I'm from out of town and am curious.

Like I said, I'm not from the market. Hence my curiosity. I work in the Northeast and make about 50K doing am drive in a medium sized market.

Man, what do you have to blow up on this guy? Its a legitamit question. He isn't ask YOU how much you make. He is saying in general, what would you make in Chicago if your doing afternoons or whatever.

Jesus, this is the 2nd time somebody has asked this question, and somebody has blown up on them.
Edited by ZelenRecords on 11/08/05 03:32 PM.

Maybe its because the industry is as it was when I worked it: A few made the big bucks and many just got by?

It's hard to pinpoint an "average salary" in ANY market. It all varies from company to company, format to format, and shift to shift. In the early-mid 90's, I was a program director/music director/jock in a medium market making a depressing $15K/yr. Within a year of leaving, I was doing FAR less work in middays in another medium market making over $50K.

I think many people on this board are fulltime CHI jocks going incognito. Therefore, they don't want ANYONE knowing what they make. Here's a fun tidbit that usually surprises people: When I left Big City Radio for ABC/Disney, I took a significant pay CUT. I'll never forget people saying "Well, now that you're on a REAL Chicago signal, you must be making REAL money!" I'd just grin. It's funny how the biz can work.

1. it's not anybody's business what one particular jock makes at his gig.
2. nobody "blew up" at anybody. he was just stating things as they are.
3. R&R puts out a salary overview in their magazine once a year or so. it's usually pretty close to what's real.

overall, i've seen some salaries go WAY UP for some airshifts in chicago, and some decrease. depends on the company, the air-shift and the personality.

there's no way really to get a good average without some in-depth investigation and this ain't exactly the place to do it. if you've got an agent, he would know, or at least be able to get you what you want.
______________
