Chick Watkins

I've been hearing John Gleason on the air for the past few evenings in place of Chick Watkins.

Then found this in a Google search from WABY, a DG affiliate:

"Chick Watkins has moved on to other ventures with our network affiliation. For the time being, he will be replaced in the evening by John Gleason. We hope to have more information for you soon. We wish CHICK WATKINS well "

I guess I would have been listening that time of day starting next week. He had a nice voice. I'm sorry to hear it.

Chick gone? I wasn't aware of that! WABY is one of my DG "locals"... however at sunset they ALL fade from clear listening. Chick has been such a staple there. I wonder what pastures he's moved on to?

DG gave Chick an "Early Retirement" as part of the 30+ person cutback a few weeks ago. Don Reid (Bishop) is done as of June 2nd at least with Standards. Not sure if he will remain as image voice of Kool Gold or not. Several of the DG formats are going away completely in the middle of June. Standards is supposed to stick around with 5 jocks (including part timers) remaining. They are trying to push the Storq custom voicetrack system on everyone. It sounds great and makes every station sound like it's programmed locally, but they want a good amount of cash layout for it. They aren't going to get it from most of these stations who have budgeted $0 cash for programming the past 20+ years.
