Chille Reception?

Well, now that the sale of the CBS cluster to Regent is a week old, let the speculation begin...

Regent spent a boatload of money to buy into Buffalo. It looks like they'll have some serious debt to service, so, one might speculate that there might be some cost cutting once they take the reins in the Rand Building.

Let's play bean counter. If you look at big salaries and cost/benefit ratios, who jumps out a likely target?

Jack runs pretty cheap. WYRK is the Big Daddy, bringing in big dollars. WBLK is already syndicated in their most expensive daypart (mornings). WECK is a wreck, but an inexpensive wreck. Which brings us to WJYE.

If WJYE has already re-upped Delilah for two more years, nights are set. Mike McQueen got bumped from PM drive as "too expensive". Bob Galli apparently isn't overpaid. So, where do we go from here?

Does a music-intensive "background" station need a live body in mid-days, when there's no traffic to report? What about mornings? Joe Chille has been at WJYE a long time, and wears a lot of hats. Rumor has it that he also pulls down a healthy salary - perhaps too healthy. Is Joe a morning mainstay in Buffalo, or "just another voice" that could be replaced for a lot less money?

What about other options? Could the Rand Building be too upscale in a city where cheap office space is easy to find? How long would it take for cheaper rent - or even a building purchase - to offset moving costs? What other corners can be cut to help out the balance sheet?

As much as Regent may want to, they may not be able to move out of the Rand Building. Most of the towers are located on top of the building. When they tried to move out 10 years ago, the building owner threatened to raise the rent for the towers ... he wanted as much to keep the towers as they were paying for tower and office space. That's why they stay. Believe me it's not for the expensive parking, dirty building and ancient elevators!!

It will also take new owners to remove C.J. Lee from her very protected position at WJYE, but it may cost her former fiance Mr. Chille his comfy corner office as well. Once the new owners get a look at the many secret and not so secret love lives in the building (as well as the harrassment charges that go with them), they may make changes sooner rather than later. ;)

There's some thinking that Mr. Chille could very well move from Operation Manager-Morning Man to General Manager. He's been at the station(s) longer than anyone and has strong knowledge of the market. Regent may see him as a logical choice for GM.

With highest respect to the fact that you do know what you're talking about, I wonder, could Regent just clean house all together?
Hire bodies at lower cost from sources that *might* prefer Buffalo over where they are now, in positions that *seem* to be better than what they have now?
(thinking along the lines of exsisting Regent bodies from other sources perhaps?)

Also, is there a Regent station that will be changing format anywhere (not just Buffalo)?...take the bodies from there and offer them employment in Buffalo perhaps...?

Doing more with less

Yes, the same allegations have been mentioned. Notice ms lee was not kindly shown the door, unlike mr mcqueen; If you dont know, it sounds like JYE putting females on mid-days, but once you walk in, you know why

I dont know if a total house cleaning is in order. Im sure there will be some self-directed changes (promo director @ YRK is leaving). But Chille as GM, that sounds like a good move.

Speaking of dirty elevators, a while back, a morning show member mentioned the disaster that is Metro-Traffic on the 18th floor of the Statler building.
without saying the name, it was mentioned of dirty offices, leaky ceilings, horrific elevators (you can only get to 18 from the service elevator). CBS radio track record for updating is atrocious. (that was acknowledged by Hollander when they announced they were selling certain radio properties)

They just put new carpeting @ 1200 Rand Building, and i believe 1300. Either they are making it pretty to sell or stay.
