CHILLIWACK GETS A ROCKER

CHWK 89.5 (THE HAWK) Chilliwack, B.C. was officially launched this past weekend with an Active Rock format. Fabmar Communications based in Melfort, SK owns the new all local and live facility. This marks the first time since 2001 that Chilliwack has had a true local voice. Back in 2001 Rogers flipped the original CHWK 1270 to CKSR 98.3 (STAR FM) and turned the station into a voice tracked AC jukebox (except for local programming during AMD). The new CHWK will also carry play by play broadcasts for the immensely popular WHL Chilliwack Bruins. Rogers snubbed a proposal to carry the Bruins on STAR FM several years ago which resulted in the games being broadcast on the local Tourist & Travel Information station since then.

I'm glad they brought back the CHWK calls to Chilliwack where they belong! I grew up listening to CHWK 1270 when I lived in Vancouver in the 80's. Go0d luck to the new CHWK. To0 bad they can't simulcast on 1270.
