What's up with Chio?
On Dec. 16, the popular radio morning man wrapped his nearly five-year gig on Q102, bound for a station in San Diego/Tijuana. All was peachy. Q102 wished him well. His new home, XHTZ, started advertising the Chio in the Morning show, starting Jan. 3.
Chio drove west Christmas Day.
He got on the air as scheduled last Tuesday.
Wednesday, he quit.
Chio - he's Tim Acosta - drove east, toward the South Jersey home he shares with his wife, Shawn, and three kids. Friends say Shawn - with Tim for nearly two decades and nine cities - was not happy for reasons unrelated to the move. Neither returned calls for comment.
The Brooklyn-born Chio, 41, was heard on WIOQ-FM (102.1) from 1995 to '97, when he took another job in San Diego. He returned to Q102 in August 1999.
Can Chio just return to Q102? Program director Todd Shannon on Friday said he hadn't heard from him. Meanwhile, Shannon's started auditioning replacements. Rich Shertenlieb, former producer of Dallas' Kidd Kraddick Show, tried out Thursday and Friday. If Chio's thinking of returning to work elsewhere in Philly, there would be a six-month noncompete clause in the way.

Shertenlieb, eh? Makes sense, now that I think about it. That being said, All Access just said in Net News that a nameless candidate had a "very successful audition" last week, and there is "action to come". Hmmm...
